I’ve placed the concerns of this post in the Moral Theology Forum because I believe it is a Moral Issue that needs to be addressed.

Pro Life issues are rarely addressed from the Ambo or concerns of Catholics in a big way that it formerly was in the 1970’s and 80’s.

If one really looks hard at what’s happening in the Western Catholic Church in the last 20-30 years, Catholic Social Justice Issues have taken the front seat as the most important issues Catholics are virtually bombarded with Sicial Justice support verses anything if rarely spoken about Pro-Life Issues.

Personally IMHO I believe a lot of Social Justice Issues would solve themselves if Catholic sought greater importance in Pro Life Issues.

Micheal Voris video below fall of 2012, but it speaks lengths about the greater voice of Catholics supporting Social Justice in the Church. Pro Life takes a back seat.
Most Catholic today … those who go to Mass each week included … consider themselves ‘social justice’ Catholics. Is it any surprise the Catholic vote again went to Obama?

You’ve started with a premise you have not poven and treat it as a fact.

It is not my experience at all that pro-life issues are “rarely” addressed, the opposite in fact.

What Diocese are you in? Where do you get the notion that the Catholic Church doesn’t place a great importance on pro-life issues when they are the greatest advocates of pro-life? There is even a pro-life office at the USCCB amongst promoting many other pro-life activities and offices around the U.S… It’s a huge battle that isn’t won overnight. In fact, it is a battle that has gone on throughout the history of the world.

I suppose then it depends on a number of factors where each Catholic resides particularly in thriving populations of Catholics in bigger cities verses smaller ones.

Pro Life used to have a huge following in my archdiocese. OK granted I live in a small tri-community city of 140,000 where its predominantly Baptist. Approx 25,000 are Catholic.

In the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s I was a strong supporter of Catholic Pro Life until everything virtually just died off leaving me perplexed. I don’t have the time and effort working in the Pro Life movement like I did for almost three decades due to dire health illnesses.

The Pro Life movement needs good strong motivational leaders with commitment.
Rarely do I hear much about Pro Life today other than mockery or watering down in importance because people do their own thing so to speak.

The fear of God and fear of going to hell doesn’t exist in the world today.

A rhetorical question in the thread title by the O.P. However, I too wonder the same thing. I just do not get some people’s thinking…

I have a hard time believing God will award Social Justice to a people that show no mercy to the pre born.

If those that show mercy, receive mercy - is not the reverse true as well? 🤷

I never hear it preached about at our church. I find it very frustrating and heart breaking.

I have experienced quite the contrary. Pro-Life issues take center stage.
But I disagree that Pro-life issues would solve the problems of social injustice. An educated society is needed for understanding of such profound issues, and social injustice prevents good education. When you have so much social injustice there is rarely any freedom of the people and without true freedom people can’t have proper understanding of what abortion is and how it affects the individual and society in general.
Try talking to an uneducated poor woman that is worried about not only her next meal but also about discrimination by society for having a child out of wedlock or very early in her life. The same applies to driven women with good educations that can only think about career choices and her supposed “freedom” without real understanding of what freedom really is (freedom from passion, ego, pride, etc…). Of course there are people that know what they are doing and just don’t care which will get you the same results: deaf ears.
Also within the church there has been a lot of debate about abortion and what constitutes sin in practicing such a thing. So abortion is not such an easy issue.
I beleive Christ was much more an advocate of social justice than of what we all know to be “Pro-life”. We as Catholics many times promote social injustice by discrimination, believing we have the moral high ground, instead of having compassion, patience, humility or being charitable and that is a very grave sin.

My personal view on abortion is that in 99% of cases, it is a sin right from conception. The other 1% has to do with many underlying things such as conscience of the individual at the time or circumstances, since I am not God I can’t judge or know exactly what were the circumstances, state of mind or conscience, that drove a person to commit abortion. Only God knows the hearts and minds of his sons and daughters.

On January 25th, 2013 twenty-seven years since the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its rulings, Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton, which legalized abortion for any reason during all nine months of pregnancy. As a result of these rulings, an estimated 53 million pre-born babies have been destroyed by abortion and untold millions of mothers, fathers, grandparents, and siblings are suffering from the aftermath of those abortions.

Sadly, a recent study by the Alan Guttmacher Institute-an affiliate of Planned Parenthood Federation of America-reported that 31% of women having abortions describe themselves as Catholic. In 1997 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that no constitutional prohibition against a competent, terminally ill patient committing suicide with the aid of a physician could be found in the Constitution.

As a result, virtually every American State and Canadian Province now may decide whether or not to legalize physician assisted suicide.

Many Catholics need to worry about factors encompassing modern medical technology and end of life decisions and think that assisted suicide and in some cases, euthanasia, must be available to them and their loved ones. The mainstream media and others have frightened them needlessly to the point where they do not understand that there are positive, life-affirming options available to the terminally ill and dying.

It is abundantly clear that we must step up our efforts to prevent the actual or threatened assaults on the dignity of each human life from fertilization to natural death. This is especially true for the great multitude of the weak and defenseless among us.

My experience is different. I have rarely, if ever heard discussion of social justice issues. But the pro-Life cause is all over.

Weird, really, because my parish does such a great job with its ministry to the poor, needy, sick, etc. but rarely is Jesus’ call to help such people discussed!!!
