Why are Catholic weddings in a church building?

I know that Catholics must be married in a Catholic Church Building. I do not know or am not sure why this is so. I have to explain why to a non-catholic. So please help me out by giving me the official reason why for a marriage to be a valid Catholic marriage it had to be done not only by a Catholic priest but in a Catholic Church building.
