Both of them are pretty much indulging in bodily pleasures and the way you get over both of them is restraint.

GREAT Question:thumbsup:

The reason is because both are so very common. God wants us to be aware ot BOTH sinful actions.👍

God Bless,
Pat

While you can have lust that is gluttonous and you can have gluttony that is lustful, both are not mutually inclusive. Lust can be for a single person for a short time. If gluttony where the only thing listed, then a ‘little’ lust would be OK, but a lot of lust would be bad. The same with gluttony, if it were only listed as lust… then over drinking, over eating, etc would be perfectly ok. As it is, they compliment each other and at the same time talk about a different sphere of sin that can overlap, but do not necessarily do so.

That may be so on one level,
However,
Food and sex are quite different things.
If I over-indulge in eating that has different consequences
to disordered behavior regarding sex.

Over-indulgence in eating can be expensive and can ruin my heath and weaken self discipline.
Lust can result in adultery, breaking up marriages, heartbreak, and ruining the lives of children, ‘unwanted pregnancies’, a choice for abortion.
They can’t be lumped under one heading.

Gluttony will wreck me,
but lust will wreck others’ lives as well as mine, to an escalating degree.

imo gluttony can wreck others as well what *if a dad eats all the food and leaves none for his kids, *

Lust is an inordinate desire for things that one should not have, without regard to whether or not that desire is fulfilled.

Inordinate desire for food, when fulfilled, leads to gluttony, just as inordinate desire for sex, when fulfilled, leads to adultery and fornication.

Gluttony IS a type of “Lust,” but it is lust towards Food, not Sex. Lust as a Sin in of itself should be specified as “Lust of Sex.”

THAT should be the differentiation------not just “Lust” and “Gluttony.”

There ya go. :p:)

I’ve not known of such a situation…though I have heard of a mans’ alcoholism causing an outcome similar to that. A family I knew of very often had bread and dripping for their main meal (Ie, bread and cooking fat) because their father drank to excess regularly.

For that matter, gluttony can hasten death and leave family without a parent. It can make a servant of the person who cares for one who has become severely overweight,
nevertheless, the two, sexual lust, and lust for food or drink are both serious enough to consider as separate as well as linked issues.

One is about waqnting, or getting. The other is about consuming what one has gotten.

We can Lust without ever attaining.

Once we attain what was lusted after, bluttony may become an issue of voracious over-indulging, whether it be food, drink, or sex.

One can’t be gluttonous without first attaining what is lusted after.

Lusting is a desire and gluttony is an action.
