Why are Mormons so happy?

I suppose this is for another thread, but I’ve always been curious what would attract an intelligent, thoughtful, discerning person to Mormonism? From my vantage point and based on some of the things you’ve said it seems the teachings are, to be honest, not rational and even preposterous, and the spirituality unattainable. I knew a very lovely and intelligent man who became a Mormon. I don’t know what happened to him, but I’ve always wondered.

There are many people who say the exact same thing about our Catholic faith, especially about some of our most sacred parts of our faith like the Holy Eucharist and Holy Communion. But we believe because we believe by faith that it’s true. I suppose that Mormons do the same.

Because Catholic religion has a higher focus on suffering maybe?

We don’t have many Mormons here in Australia so I can’t speak from much experience.
I had a dentist once from a Canada who was Mormon and he was a great person.

The ones I have seen are mostly from TV shows from the Us and they usually seem very nice,although I noticed some have excessive focus on money or external looks.

didnt you people watch cnn documentary on mormons committing suicide,with some families disowning their own children ,because they went wayward .i felt so bad for those kids,disowned by by their own families .instead,of helping get back into correct path,they abandoned them .beware of them .they only help non mormon victims of calamities ,if theyre considering converting .one time ,they infiltrated a catholic version of habitat for community in the philippines .instead of them helping catholic building homes for the less fortunate ,they begun proselytizing catholic volunteers.fortunately,their evil action were discovered and they were booted out!

Suicide of LGBTQ youth and young adults is high in UT. Youth suicide, in general, is called out almost daily here, in Utah, as epidemic and more numbers every year. It is the leading cause of death for under 18 years old.

“Believer” is a more recent documentary film, that focuses on the LGBTQ youth suicide rate, and doing something about it. The doing something about it, not coming from the Mormon Church or Mormon political leaders, but a Mormon rock star.

…at this time. My Mormon ancestors were polygamous. When I was a kid, I went to a family reunion for the descendants of one polygamous family. On those name tags you get, we were instructed to write our name and the name of the wife we were descended from.

Over thirty years ago, a close family member returned from his mission, and four months after returning, he hung himself. He was a closet homosexual until that moment. So yes, the LDS Church does send out homosexual missionaries, they only have to pretend to be the model their leaders are looking for. This pretending continues, sometimes, into a heterosexual marriage, as you described. ETA: This approach of pretending was encouraged by the LDS Church, until recently, as a means to getting over homosexual attraction. It was a thing for a longggg time, this idea that Mormons could get the gay out of a man. In the 90’s, a nephew of mine was sent by his Mormon Bishop to a program called Evergreen, which was run by Mormons, with the intent to get the gay out of Mormon youth.

Pretending happiness, is a well practiced Mormon thing. When I was a Mormon youth, I pretended to believe, what I didn’t believe. I found happiness when I left religion, entirely, in my early twenties.

As a Mormon convert speaking, I’m so happy about how the restored gospel has enriched my life and brought me out of a a dark place. No disrespect to Catholicism, of course, as I have respect for all faiths. We believe in agency, the right to choose, and I don’t judge other’s faiths.
