I’m sure that makes you feel very special!I have picked up my very own personal critic.

OK, so you think that we should revamp our constitution to match that of Germany and other nations that either have official state religions, or who regulate religions so that they can, by law, tell their citizens Who to worship and how?germany makes scientology illegal. if our country would acknowledge christianity as the foundation for our values–we could have some laws forbidding certain cults which are proven fabricated–like mormonism and scientology. other than those two, i can’t think of any others that can be proven to be false. i don’t believe that anyone should be forced into conversion to any religion. but i also don’t praise any government or constitution that doesn’t acknowledge Christ as King.
If you are referring to Bushman’s book, I think that you would be wrong. It is quite an indepth biography and it will be considered the best for quite some time. At the moment the lds church is publishing the JSP, the Joseph Smith Papers. It will consist of many volumes of work by Smith. It should be eye-opening and a gem for mormon researchers.I appreciate your passion, however, in my experience Deseret Book and other LDS publishers or authors, pump out books on JS at a good pace. Give this book a few years on the shelf, and it will be relegated to “opinion”.
if our country made mormonism and scientology illegal, i would be happy. in fact, if they made catholicism the state religion, i would be more happy. i think it’s dangerous to allow faith to be seperated from reason to the point that people will believe proven fabrications.OK, so you think that we should revamp our constitution to match that of Germany and other nations that either have official state religions, or who regulate religions so that they can, by law, tell their citizens Who to worship and how?
There there. :console: I’ll drop the U vs Y thing now.I can’t win.

Ok. Let me follow this a bit. Dee Dee said that the LDS Church should be illegal like scientology.Right. So you are actually agreeing with Religio on this matter. Thank you.
The German arguments for making Scientology illegal are not based on whether they are true or false but rather that their purpose is not religious but rather the making of money.germany makes scientology illegal. if our country would acknowledge christianity as the foundation for our values–we could have some laws forbidding certain cults which are proven fabricated–like mormonism and scientology. other than those two, i can’t think of any others that can be proven to be false. i don’t believe that anyone should be forced into conversion to any religion. but i also don’t praise any government or constitution that doesn’t acknowledge Christ as King.
Um, read what you quoted again. I said I would NOT put Mormonism in the same category as Scientology.Ok. Let me follow this a bit. Dee Dee said that the LDS Church should be illegal like scientology.
I pointed out that Scientology is not illegal but has been denied religious status in Germany.
Religio said he would put Mormonism in the same category as Scientology.
I said that he might wish to do that philosophically he would not be able to do so legally.
So, no I am not agreeing with him. I was talking about how putting Mormonism and Scientology into the same legal status is impossible due to the vast differences in what they are. Scientology is not truly a religion while Mormonism clearly is.
Hello Jake! I think that you will need to go to confession to confess your sins. The sacrament of reconciliation asks: Do I dispise people of other creeds…? By your post, I can see that you dispise mormons and so, you would answer the question with a yes. I think that you should talk to a priest about your attitude toward people of other creeds.Yes the MORmON church is an abomination and yes there congregation is damned but however when it comes to government, we cannot expect it to jump in and defend christ against such an heratic occult. It is up to us christians to fight against the MORmON occult. And if do not succeed then that’s ok, but the souls of this occult will surely meet thre false prophet Joseph Smith in the deepest part of hell! Even scientology is less offensive than the MORmONS! To say god was one a man and the an occult member and his wife can become a god is the most distasteful thing and is surely a product of an antichrist!
My apologies. Tired eyes. Mea CulpaYeah, and I would not put Mormonism in the same category as Scientology.
Yes, now read it slowly:My apologies. Tired eyes. Mea Culpa

I don’t agree, as, most LDS writing becomes “opinion” at some point. “Quite some time” could be a year or maybe 50, maybe more. Eventually the LDS church will change, 100 more books on JS will be written, and Bushman’s book will fade into a distant memory. If you are referring to Bushman’s book, I think that you would be wrong. It HAS been one of THOSE days. It’s ok, I thought I was going crazy.
Thus we have all of the “it was a transcription error”/“it was a clerical error” reasonings on the FAIR wiki.I don’t agree, as, most LDS writing becomes “opinion” at some point. “Quite some time” could be a year or maybe 50, maybe more. Eventually the LDS church will change, 100 more books on JS will be written, and Bushman’s book will fade into a distant memory.
I know of the JSP and have read some of what is available online. Being the skeptic that I am, I have to wonder what has been left out. Also, most of it will still be labeled opinion, as it is not canon. And for you, don’t you have a problem that JS dictated and by far most of the papers are actually written by someone else?
So there is nothing uniquely positive about Mormonism. Thanks for clearing that up.It would be rather surprising if you did, Stephen, but don’t worry about it. Asking you to find something uniquely positive about Mormonism would be rather like asking Bryan to think of something uniquely positive about any school but the University of Utah.
Now me, since I AM Mormon, it would logically follow that I see quite a few uniquely positive things about Mormonism. I would have to, or I wouldn’t BE Mormon.
That said, in terms of this general conversation, who said that there has to be something uniquely positive about Mormonism in order to see anything positive about Mormonism? I mean, it is true that Utah has the fewest out-of-wedlock births of all fifty states, and that has a great deal to do with the major religion, but NOT getting pregnant when you are a teenager isn’t exactly unique, is it? Just…positive.
Did you read the book? History will always be open to interpretation. More discoveries may be uncovered which can make the Bushman book irelevant. But until that time, the book will stand as the definitivie biography of JS.I don’t agree, as, most LDS writing becomes “opinion” at some point. “Quite some time” could be a year or maybe 50, maybe more. Eventually the LDS church will change, 100 more books on JS will be written, and Bushman’s book will fade into a distant memory.
If there is nothing positive about mormonism then there must not be anything positive about mormons. Right? If you believe this then you will need to go to confession. The sacrament of reconciliation asks: Do I despise people of other creeds…? Your post would make me understand that you do despise mormons. Correct? Since it is impossible to separate someone from their faith’s influence. So there is nothing uniquely positive about Mormonism. Thanks for clearing that up.
