Chill out Dude(s). I am half-American Indian (Niitsitapi, or Blackfoot). QUOTE]

I find it funny when someone makes a bigoted remark, or a racist remark they immediately try to relate to the person they just offended by saying something like “I have black friends I can’t be racist,” or “I used to date Mexican people I can’t be racist,” or “I like Rap music…” or “I’m half American Indian…”
You may in fact be half Native American but it doesn’t give you a free pass to make bigoted statements to others. To disparage their perceived heritage, then once the offense has been noticed try to play it off as friendly banter because “hey I’m of ethnic decent also.”

Stick to trying to validate the cult you call a Church, and use viable sources not books your church has written to “back up” your theological and philosophical outlook, maybe a book like…The Bible per say.
That would be refreshing, a simple discussion without a nasty bigoted racist remark, or name calling, but I guess when pushed to present facts or make a sustainable argument those who cannot must resort to underhanded tactics.

Very Christian indeed.
Joe would be proud.

So, Why Me, do you believe that in 2007 GBH turned the LDS church into an anti-racist church, negating 170 years of racism, or that he apostasized from the LDS church? Choose carefully, it is either one or the other.
I think that GBH was addressing a common issue within the USA: racism or prejudice. It is not at all what you posted. Prejudice is a natural part of our human nature. It just needs to be subdued. And I don’t believe that the lds church was racist. People of all color were invited to join the lds faith and they attended the meetings along with the people of european decent. And the priesthood affected a group of people but it did not have to do with their color. Many people of color were members and held the priesthood.

“Avatage guys”, as long as they are not black-skinned …

placido
This is not true. People of dark skin joined the lds church and held the priesthood. And the people that you are refering to were invited to join the lds faith and worship with everyone else. But they were prohibited to receive the priesthood.

My Bishop would most likely tell me to stop wasting my time on prideful bigots. You see, Bible Bashing, and denigrating another religion is not the way you are glorifying Catholicism, but rather it is your insecurities leading to a desire for self-aggrandizement. In essence you say, oooh, look at me, how glorious I am, see me shout at the mean ol’ mormon! There is nothing of humility in your statement. I see nothing of the glory and strength that is Catholicism in your vain repetition of false hoods. If you want to read of a great exemplar to the Catholic faith, read of the Doctor of the Church, St. Thérèse de Lisieux. Nothing of what you say makes me want to look to the RCC as a source of faith, but, if I were ignorant of the Catholic Faith, I would say, yeesh, what a church of Bigots.
Here,Here!! I agree with what you said. I even have mentioned Saint Therese on the mormon threads here as an example of how catholics should behave. But it has fallen on deaf ears for some.

Go ahead and post that you are Mormon for surely you are not of the catholic faith! any Bishop, Priest, or deacon will comfirm that! Good luck with the occult!

LOL! the occult would not allow black men join the priesthood until just 40 years ago and also say that one of the twelve tribes and Christ where/are blond hair, blue eyed, and fair skinned! talk about ignorant bigots! another sign of blindness and lack of God!
Okay, now I know your problem. It is not occult but cult that you are meaning. It took me several of your posts to figure this out. If you replace occult with cult your post would at least make more sense structurely.

Stop pretending you love something you denigrate with your very belief.

You come to a Catholic site. You tell Catholics if they would be humble they would understand your false teachings to be truth. You tell Catholics that we bash the Bible.

Your arrogance is astounding. Perhaps this is acceptable to your Mormon pals. Here, no one is going to sit quietly while you parade around with no clothes.

And bigotry, please. Such a weak diversion.

You know, Jake, let me tell you a secret. I am more catholic than most of the catholic posters who post on the mormon threads. I have said it many times: catholics on the mormon threads need to have the spirit of saint therese, mother theresa, mother cabrini and katherine drexel. And when that happens, the posts will become more catholic.

And yet, poor wessup is being polite to you and to other catholics, as is dianaid and parker. But in return, they are all met with impoliteness. And wessup is right, for most of the time, the catholic posters on the mormon threads are not doing the catholic faith any favors.

Tell us your testimony of the Book of Mormon again. We haven’t heard it for at least the last 12 hours.

WAKE THE ‘F’ UP WHY ME. Your friend wussup doesn’t have a polite bone in their body.

No one is debating whethr or not other nationalities were invited to join the LDS church. People of all nations were invited to join, however people of AFRICAN decent, people with BLACK skin were permitted to become baptized but NOT extended FULL membership within the Church.
The Mormon Church preaches the only way one can acheive the Highest Glory is through the sacred Temple ordiences such as temple marriage. One cannot acheive temple marriage if he cannot hold the melchizedek preisthood. Up until 1978 members of the church, men of the church with Black skin could NOT hold the melchizedek preisthood. Other men of other origins, Latin, Native American, Asian, Middle Eastern, European, ALL could hold the preisthood.
“And the priesthood affected a group of people but it did not have to do with their color.” You either don’t fully grasp what is going on and what we’re disscussing or you just choose not to recognize facts. It is fact men were witheld preisthood blessings due to the color of their skin. Mormon Doctrine teaches BLACK people are ALL decendants of Cain therefor not eligable to hold the preisthood. Tell me how this isn’t a matter of Skin Color?

Prejudice is human nature, but the issue is prejudice being preached as God’s word from his so called “Prophets and Apostles.” A church that for 170 some odd years has been preaching racial inequality and justifying it as Gods Revelation.

GBH was addressing matters concerning the Church. This wasn’t like the “Proclomation of the Family” which was released to various media outlets and directed to the world, this was a topic disscussed not only in General Confrence but also in the Session of Confrence attended exclusively by Preisthood holders…why? The Boss doesn’t address an issue at work unless it is just that an “ISSUE”. If you’re always on time he/she doesn’t pull you in the office and give you an earful on tardiness. Like ALL insitutions, the head of said institutions bring up issues that NEED to be addressed because it is a Prevalent PROBLEM. “The Squeaky Wheel gets the Grease.” GBH made it a point because it is a prevalent problem throughout the church. It will always be, because it was doctrine preached from the top down.

Now, McConkie had stated exclusion from the preisthood was preached early because of “Lack of light and knowledge regarding the topic” yet it was taught through J.Smith Brigham Young as Revealed Truth. Truth is an eternal principle, it doesn’t change, so if it were originally taught as a Revealed TRUTH how does it now change?

Like I said before, the Mormon church in 1978 was on the verge of rapid global expansion. It was enjoying great results in countries who had a majority of Black peroples and peoples of African decent. The need to lift the ban on the preisthood wasn’t divine but a calculated business decision. They needed to do so they could further their expansion efforts in these other African dominated countries so they wouldn’t drive perscetive members away.
I thought we covered all this already.

No you are not catholic at all! you are confused. You claimed to be catholic and mormon, which abviousely shows that you do not fully understand either beliefs! you are not catholic at all! 0%!

I couldn’t agree with you more. Wussup’s first post on this thread and he’s calling people bigots. The a little later down the road he makes dispariging comments about perceived heritage.

What was it, somewhere around post 555 where why me came as close to admitting he is mormon.

Not to mention, why me has to be one of the most judgemental people on here, telling people they need to go to confession, they aren’t being Catholic,

Praise the Lord I have him on ignore also.

Oh, okay, since you asked! 😃 I was a good catholic boy quietly attending my catholic church up the hill. But then I went away to school out west and came across the mormons. A nice young woman introduced me to the Mormons. Now I must admit that I was attracted to her before I knew that she was mormon. But I decided to pay her a visit and as it happened the mormon general conference was on TV as it is in the mormon corridor. I sat there and the young woman that I was attracted to ivited me to institute class that is mainly for young adults. Now being a young red blooded male I decided to go and suddenly I was introduced to the book of mormon. I never heard of that book before that.

Now I looked around and many of the young women were rather cute in that Institute class but I did take a book of mormon home with me. 🙂 And I began to read it. After a couple of months I prayed about the book and received a witness that the book was true. It was a powerful witness and because of that I can not deny the book of mormon. I was baptized into the lds faith at the tender age of 18.

And now I attend Mass again after many many many years.

…I don’t think that being told to 'shut the F** Up" is a shining example of civil discourse or an example of stellar good judgment.

Of course, I could be mistaken about that. Certainly if I were to say that to any of you here, it would be greated with great gasps of indignation. I suppose, however, that since y’all are Catholics saying it to someone else, it is acceptable. It is certainly true that nobody has objected.

(shrug)

Se’ la guerre.
