I, too, was curious about what we might’ve said that derailed your journey into the Catholic Church.
If the above few items are keeping you a away, I gurss there are a few thousand others who met and overcame these and other problems.
I’m a cradle Catholic. Buddhism may seem like a gentle, “middle way,” but whenever I encounter someone who has difficulties with Catholic doctrine (and yes, it can be demanding) I always think to myself, If he only truly understood the Eucharist, all other objections would melt away.
You are still with us on the CA Forum, which is good. Maybe, if you would pay special attention to the Eucharistic threads and some of the other CA Forums, you would at least have a better grasp of what I mean.
Once you truly believe and understand the Eucharist, you’ll know there’s no other place to be.
Maybe the next poster will get the thread back on track. Sorry - couldn’t help it.
Thanks for your kind post, Strider.

I came here originally with an honest, sincere desire to understand the Catholic Christian faith and like I said, was ready to sign up!! I just have to work out some things - like the items I already mentioned - before I can honestly and with a sincere determination if I am to ever come to accept the Catholic faith.

God bless…

…There was either too much strictness or too much "looseness". …
If one looks at the writings of the Buddha, one sees what he termed as **the “middle path” **- neither too strict nor too loose. …Then, he became an ascetic and wandered from place to place, practiced self-mortification but again found this practice was not beneficial and would not keep him from death.
So, having said all that - Siddhartha Gotama (the Buddha) **meditated for six years **- became enlightened and the rest is history. … Peace…
That story of Red Riding Hood and the 3 Bears really got to you.

Q1. Did this Buddha fella ever have a real job, or career, or did he just ride blissfully on inherited wealth?

Q2. Did this buddha ever claim divine authority to teach, or was he just a really neat homeless fella?

Q3. If some things are too strict, are they objectively too strict for all humans or just certain humans? Same with loose?

Q4. Did buddha rise from the dead?

Q5. Did all those Apostles and others lie about Christ rising from the dead?

Q6. If so, how do you know this with certainty?

My problem with non-catholics on this site is:
  1. that they ask a lot of questions that are expertly answered in a variety of ways across the internet. A basic google search would give them enough to read until the Second Coming (not buddha’s, he ain’t commin back).
  2. They refuse to answer questions we ask them! There are very few exceptions.
ie They want to preach a MONOLOGUE, not DIALOGUE!

  1. Those of you who don’t know how to google search.
    2. Discussions on personal experiences, either ours or yours.
    3. Comments you may have on what you did read on the internet, by referencing the site…

Show me where no one answered your question…at least once, and I’ll Fix it now.
Then you can answer mine. OK? My only admonishment is that you did your preliminary homework on the subject…either on this forum or on the internet Catholic Apologetics sites.

Really, we get endless questions like:
   Where is Mary in Scripture?
Where does it say she did not have many kids?
Why do you Worship (they mean Adore) Mary?
Do you think the bible is infallible?
Why do you think peter is the rock in M16 ?
Why do you baptize infants?
Baptism means only IMMERSION, so why sprinkle or pour?
REALLY! These answers are all over the internet and endless books.

First, what’s your question?

Second, why are you using admonishment to describe that I do my homework? I know what the definition of the word is, but it doesn’t fit with the rest of your sentence.

Let us see if **ahimsaman72 answers my questions in POST 20.

Re: Us giving answers: I have never seen such an answer-obsessed bunch in one place as Catholics on this forum!
They actually troll it looking for questions!

Hm. Well, I guess whatever people run into in books and the internet would be okay then, huh? Oh never mind. I guess I’d get tired of the same questions too, but I thought I was doing a good thing by coming directly to Catholics to get answers about Catholics. Guess not. I’ll not bother you and go find a book or look something up on our beloved Google.

What I object as far as non-Catholics being on this site is they have a forum to instill more distortion than that already exists in the Catholic faith.

Additionally, and worse is the Protestant, the Orthodox, etc who pretends to be Catholic (like the wolf in sheeps clothes) or false prophets our Lord warned us against, and being that they are liberal, as these groups are schismatic, hammer away at what ever is left of the traditions of the church and makes believers doubt their faith, sort of like the devil when our Lord was in the desert for 40 days offering him paradise. You see, being a Catholic, and I mean a Conservative catholic, one who abides by the faith was never meant to be easy, and these “Temptations” that these schismatic groups offer, an easier way, and of course Vatican II which substaniated their existance in now saying that all can get to heaven even outside of the church is wrong and to be avoided at all costs in many peoples opinion.

What amazes me even more on top of that is the hate that many here on this board and the Vatican have for the Traditionals, and how sympathetic we are instilled to be and the Ecumenical rhetoric we get day in and day out from the Vatican on all of these religions, many of whom totally deny our Lord, and we are told we must learn about them. That is a double standard, and there seems to many that there is an agenda and makes any sane person question the motive for this, as Dignitatis Humanae and Lumen Gentium are polar opposites of everything that the church taught for 2000 years, and martyrs died for, and to be abolished overnight is astonishing.

Curious:

ALL Catholic Apologetics sites are hosted by Catholics. Some also host debates with prots, atheists Jews, and pagans. That’s why they are called “Catholic Apologetics”.

HUH??? What about my post made you feel the need to tell me that Apologetics sites hosted by Catholics are called, “Catholic Apologetics.” I must appear a whole lot more stupid than I thought.

I do not believe that a nonCatholic comes here to gain knowledge, but rather it is the reverse.
I am certainly here to gain knowledge. I am in the RCIA program.

You may wonder what it is that protestants were protesting. In the case of Anglicans, what we have been protesting is the Pope’s refusal to give Henry VIII an annulment in 1534. But that was a long time ago. I reckon 470 years of protesting is enough. We’ve made our point. So now it’s back to Rome.

Given the spirit of the questions - I have to decline. And, it would be hijacking this thread to continue on the topic of your questions. I will soon begin a thread of Buddhism in relation to Christianity when I have more time to devote to it. If you were truly open and wanted your questions answered I would oblige.

Please don’t misunderstand this post. It’s straight from the shoulder. Look at what you wrote, I put it in bold type.

Your thinking is like a dirty little kid who says he can’t climb in the bath tub until he is very clean - all over. You want to feel like you are as Holy as the Bishop before ( I said BEFORE) you seriously start to become involved in entering the Catholic Church.

It’s not that way. When a Catholic goes to connfession and confesses all his sins, and later he starts to ask if all of his sins were really forgiven. Who puts that into his mind? I will tell you…it is the Devil (Satan). The Devil is a liar and he wants you to loose you faith. If you do then Satan wins and claps his hands.

Sorry Pal, but if you have to outdo the Bishop BEFORE you start to enter the Church – ya’ know what? You never will.

I found Catholic Answers because I am Catholic abd was looking for a Catholic Forum. I have been here 4 to 5 months.

I have noticed a number of Protestants and yes, even atheists are frequent posters. A few of them pose as Catholics for a while, that is until their emotions cause them to reveal themselves.

Is CA the best Catholic/Christian forum? What is the motive of a Protestant to come here and belittle Catholocism? I do not believe that a nonCatholic comes here to gain knowledge, but rather it is the reverse. 😦
While it is true this is essentially a Catholic forum, everyone is and should be welcome here. Isn’t the purpose of Catholic Answers to reach out to as many people as possible, to Catholics seeking to understand what they believe, and to non-Catholics seeking to understand what we are supposed to believe?

Gerry 🙂

You just proved my point. Non-Cath’s will not answer straight questions. Thank you.
If you could answer intelligently, we’d already have the answers.
All but 2 of those questions would satisfy with 1-word answers.

BTW:
One last question that can have a 1-word answer:
Was this behavior too “strict” or too “loose”? :

Frankly, I enjoy a dialogue with other faiths, but I refuse to sit here and let someone use this forum as a pulpit for their misdirected sense of evangelism and slanderous propaganda villifying the Catholic faith that I hold dear. As most of you know, I have (and am still) studying my faith and I praise God for what I am able to share. I realize that it’s not ALL non-Catholics or Prots that bash holy mother church, but this forum seems to draw a few who have no other purpose but to harrangue us and tie up the boards with their A/C diatribes full of erroneous statements and (sometimes) outright lies. Really. that’s no biggie because it just reflects the real world. (as does the net) My point is that we should welcome honest seekers and their questions with all charity. We do however, sometimes have to remind folks of the rules of respecting Catholicism here. As I’ve said before, we are really very tolerant here, unlike the n-C boards that many of us have been tossed off of for simply posting the valid answers to A/C posts there. Hence, I don’t bother to go there anymore.

Finally, to those who seem to feel that we come on too strong, I would suggest that you take a stroll through the threads where we have had to deal with vehement A/C posters and see if we haven’t sought to give them respectful and concise answers before they unload on us. I think we do a pretty decent job on the overall, but I for one will keep on trying to get the point accros to those who really want answers.

Finally, Ahimsaman72,
I’m sorry that we seem diminished in your eyes. (or so it sounds) You have been a good poster to date and I look forward to your thread on Buddhism and Christianity and I think you’ll be hip-deep in questions. I readily confess that I think you’d make a good Catholic (Shhh…I hope I didn’t say that too loud…those Bible Nazis will rip me a new one!) and maybe the Holy Spirit will do what we have been so lame about. 🙂

Pax vobiscum

From your questions, it is clear that you know NOTHING about Buddhism. It’s not that they refuse to answer the questions, it’s that posters like ____ that only offer a violent defense of the Christian faith and refuse to debate peacefully that keeps them on the defensive.

It’s the “I’m right, you are wrong, now sit down and convert you heathen!” attitude that gets me about a lot of people (reguardless of denomination/religion).
