I came here to find catholics that are questioning there faith. I have found a few we have been throwing questions at each other and I think it is helping, one might even attend a nondenominational church in there area. 1 Cor 9:22.

It sure won’t be me. I was telling my wife this morning on the way home from Mass that I’d never go into a non-Catholic church because they don’t have the Eucharist and that miracle is too beautiful to live without. Been to non-denoms too…even more confused than all the rest…and nobody is in authority…nobody looks farther back than the so-called Reformation, and none of them can all agree on what the Word of God says. That’s just the way it is outside the church. I “did my time” there… (34 years) no way I’m ever going back.

A lot of people here seem upset about the amount of non-Catholics on the board. I personally see it as a blessing and I am sorry to anyone who has been made to feel that they do not belong here. Many of us love the fact that you are here.
  1. If these boards help people find Christianity then that must be one of the greatest achievements of the internet.
  2. Similarly to any Protestants who find they are becoming Catholic, I welcome you with joy.
  3. If anyone finds the real truth about Catholics here and feels their hatered has gone, this is the first step towards breaking down the barriers which so bitterly divide us Christians.
  4. Finally to Catholics who fear for Protestants trying to ‘convert’ us: If you fear it so much that you cannot bear to listen to their views then you must not be very certain about the strength of your own faith.
I agree with everything except the last statement. We do not “fear” protestants:rolleyes: We do however get tired of the vicious attacks. Is it because we can’t defend them,no and we do.These certain posters(not all and not the majority) will call names insult things Holy and it gets old.So fear nope.frustration read some of the posts and you decide.God Bless

I am the one who started this thread. It seems that some posters think that since i asked,“Why are Protestants here?” I was asking themto leave. Not true. Stop, and think.

If you were a Priest and over a period of time you noticed some one attendig Mass and the remained stading all thru the Mass ( I use this to show they arre different - thats all) Then one day that person stands out in the front yard of thee rectory and the Priest goes out and says,“Why are you here?”

That is not an aggressive move, that is a question.:yup:

Welcome to the Forum and welcome to the faith. Please excuse Exporter and TNT…they are on a rant right now. Not all Catholics act like they do. I hope you enjoy your quest here and please ask if your need any help.

I have noticed a number of Protestants and yes, even atheists are frequent posters. A few of them pose as Catholics for a while, that is until their emotions cause them to reveal themselves.

Is CA the best Catholic/Christian forum? What is the motive of a Protestant to come here and belittle Catholocism? I do not believe that a nonCatholic comes here to gain knowledge, but rather it is the reverse"

dhGray said,“Please excuse Exporter and THT, they are on a rant, most Catholics do not act like they do”.

dhGray, you poor soul, you have a problem reading for content and meaning. There was not a word or phrase that I wrote that has to be excused. You have the same problem many college students have on tests. They answer correctly, but they answer questions that weren’t asked. You attacked something that was NOT said. May we go on from here?

Hey Jay,

I am a Christian, first and foremost, but I still consider myself a “Catholic” one. The Protestant tag suggests that I am protesting something, or that I think Christianity itself is flawed. There is nothing about the Christian faith that I protest. The only thing I protest against is how some people have behaved towards spreading the message of the faith, which has nothing to do with the faith itself. None of the Catholics I have known who have practices their faith have ever been lukewarm towards it. Even the lapsed ones I’ve met have lived very joyous and joyful lives. I don’t want to get into any arguments and debates about Catholicm vs. Protestantism because Christ wants us believers to live and worship in unity ed and harmony (read 1 Cor. 1:10).

I pray for all the divisions and wounds the church has suffered over the centuries. Coincidentally, yesterday’s Mass was Christian Unity Sunday.

I don’t call myself a protestant, and I don’t call myself a catholic. I think of myself as a non-denominational christian.

I found this forum through Karl’s e-letter. Someone forwarded his e-letter to me once, and I enjoyed his insight and signed up. I frequent catholic answers and christiananswers.net for spiritual guidance.

Why I am here:
  1. I deeply admire many Catholics (not the least of which is my wife), as well as many non-catholic christians.
  2. It is the best Christian forum I have seen, and I enjoy “socializing” with those who share faith in christ.
  3. I don’t think Catholics and non-Catholic Christians should be enemies. We disagree alot, but we agree alot too.
  4. If we could put our “sibling rivalry” on hold publicly and work together in society (emphasize “in society”, as I don’t mean we shoudl forget our differences or even not discuss them) we could change the world on important issues (abortion, and the court’s assault on religious freedom, to cite two examples).
  5. As a student in a Baptist high school I thought (and told others) it would be better for someone to find out about Jesus through the Catholic Church than not at all. Likewise, as someone who married into a Catholic family and worships at a Catholic church, I think it would be better for someone to find christ through a protestant church than never.
Even when i grew up among those who criticized catholocism, I saw catholics never as a problem but a blessing. I feel the same about sincere and devout evangelicals. I’d pick a sincere evangelical over a lukewarm catholic, and a sincere catholic over a lukewarm evangelical, any day.

Blessings to all.

As a Catholic revert I would like to participate more in apologetics but when I converse with non-Catholics I find I get defensive. Sadly I end up not participating and just reading the posts.

Yes that does seem to be a problem here. Sincere questions by Protestants are often met with snappy, defensive comments by Protestant-bashed weary Catholics. Maybe it’s that you’re so used to defending yourselves, that every Protestant with a question, yes, even the saaammmmeee ol’ questions, (Ya’ll worship Mary, dontcha?) is being attacked and ripped apart.

Chill and decipher who is here for not nice reasons and who is here to learn. good grief.

I’m here because I go to a Catholic school, and one of my Catholic friends and I thought a project we were doing might be sacreligious. So he posted here and I wanted to see what people’s opinions were so I joined. I’ve actually found it useful. And when I have questions about the Catholic faith sometimes I feel stupid asking my friends. Here I can ask anonomously without feeling stupid. And besides, if you want people to convert you kinda need to teach them about the faith don’t you? So I wouldn’t suggest getting bothered by non-Catholics coming here. And you complain about Catholic bashing? I posted a question and half the people who answered used it as an opritunity to tell me that my pastors, Eucharist, and various other things weren’t valid.

I am certainly here to gain knowledge. I am in the RCIA program.

You may wonder what it is that protestants were protesting. In the case of Anglicans, what we have been protesting is the Pope’s refusal to give Henry VIII an annulment in 1534. But that was a long time ago. I reckon 470 years of protesting is enough. We’ve made our point. So now it’s back to Rome.
You know, I’ve never heard that put quite so simply before… THERE. This is a good reason for Protestants to post here. It presents us with the opportunity to undersand each other and that which seperates us and that which joins us. And perhaps the opportunity to reconcile.

I’m fast becoming disoriented, disconcerted, and sometimes very nervous about the things I’m learning so far.
That caught my attention Curious!
From my own personal experience this is a sure sign God is working with you.
It’s a wild ride.

Hello All,

Wow! I did not realize so many of you, that I have met on threads, were not Catholic.

I certianly like the idea of having all opinions openly expressed in the Catholic Answers forum. In general I think we are working together to bring people to Jesus and that is awesome.

If a non-Catholic has a sincere question, great, let us answer it. If someone has a beef with Catholicism, possibly it can be straightened out. Possibly a non-Catholic may have a valid suggestion for us. Possibly they will convert. Hopefully we are all coming closer to Christ.

If there are Protestants here simply on the attack with no intention of good, then let us take a look at what they are throwing at us. It is always good to know what an enemy is up to. It is great to be able to critically analize the weaponry that an enemy is using against us. In order to know how to defend and counter attack (apologetics), it is great if your opponant comes here and lays it all out for you. Better here than should they attack a young or poorly trained Catholic without us having a clue as to what is going on in the real world.

P.S. Some of my best friends are Protestants.

Peace in Christ,
Steven Merten

You can “not believe” all you want to. Fact of the matter is that many non-Catholics do come here to learn. I know some of 'em. And I say more power to 'em! Would it be better for them to stay somewhere where they get misinfirmation at best or lies at worst??? Or maybe should we just tolerate 'em coming here so they might be exposed to some accuracy?

I vote for the latter. We can put up with it.

As Colin POwell says, “If you’ve hired a ‘yes-man’ in your organization, one of you is redundant!”

Sounds to me like you are just prejudiced. There is no better place to go to find out about somthing than the source. I want to know more about the catholic belief system because my brother is marrying a catholic. I would like to understand her beliefs. I can’t really understand where she is coming from unless I know what she believes. Try not to be so judgemental. I’m sure some are here only to try and convert you, but some of us just want to learn. I am not here to convert, or be converted.

I’m not a Catholic, and, according to many, not even a Christian, but I come here because (1) the threads are often of better quality than that found on beliefnet’s Catholic or Christian threads; and (2) I’m trying to understand my fascination with the Catholic faith. Regarding number 2, I’ve always felt that I was probably Catholic or Orthodox in a past life, and I admire the Catholic mystical and contemplative traditions. I don’t agree with much of Catholic dogma, so joining the Church is out of the question, but I am sympathetic to Catholicism, and I see it as one of the more comprehensive and rich spiritual traditions of the world.

dhgray, Please let my post be MY posts. You do not have to explain what I wrote. I believe that I used standard concise English. I meant what I said and said what I meant.

Servant, Read the name of this post, what is it? Protestants who will come here and ask a straightout question are not to be shunned. But look what you did. Your profile doesn’t say you are Roman Catholic, yet you come here and try to slap me around a little bit because I have an opinion. A Roman Catholic Opinion. Can’t I have an opinion?

I started this thread asking WHY Protestants are here. I wanted to know WHY a Protestant would be on a Catholic Forum. There is nothing wrong with that. I have seen on this Forum Atheists and Protestants supporting teen aged sex, abortion on demand and the Immaculate Conception. Can you understand that those things would make me wonder if they are here TO TEACH THE CATHOLICS? Wake up America. I have been Banned from Protestant sites. So my antenna is up.

I have to take each individual as I find them and as the Holy Spirit leads… Oh there are the usual pack of n-C/a-C “attack dogs” as I call 'em, but those who want to get the “straight dope” on what we believe will always find me a friendly and understanding person. I returned to Catholicism after 34 years (plus) away because someone attacked Catholic Marian beliefs with foolishness that we don’t even believe and I stood up to him even though I was FAR from a practicing Catholic at that time. It was my reseasrch into the real beliefes and teaching of the Catholic Church that led me home…(Though I realize that it was really the Holy Spirit using the Blessed Virgin to bring me home). I am a truth freak…If it’s not true I have no use for it and when I began to really dig into all this I discovered that what I had called Christianity was not really the one from the NT. It was more like the Catholic Church than anything else that is out there…so I came home. The more I check it out…(and I do), the more I like what the Catholic Church is and teaches. And the truths just keep stacking up to make one big beautiful church that Christ founded and that I (Praise be To God!) found my way home to, with the help of the Holy Spirit.

So I guess I sort of understand both sides and it does get frustrating when we get bit by the attack dogs, but hey…it comes with the turf and I do find some pretty decent n-c’s in here. All the rest is just the Lord’s work…I can only supply the truths…it’s the Holy Spirit’s job to make it real in the hearts of the people I talk to.
Pax vobiscum,

So, having said all that - Siddhartha Gotama (the Buddha) meditated for six years - became enlightened and the rest is history. I have found the same in my life - neither a strict life nor a loose life is beneficial.

I now read Buddhist sutras (teachings) and meditate regularly. I find it satisfying and peaceful. I also go to my Baptist church on Sundays. It may seem nuts, but for me it works.

Peace…
Budda died, and never got back up again, Jesus died and arose three days later, Jesus has power over death, Budda doesn’t.
I’m sticking with the man that was true to His words, to destroy the temple and raise it up in three days.
