The question says it all. I find more Anti-Catholicism in Protestantism than Eastern Orthodoxy, why is that?

Maybe it is the love and reverence for the Blessed Mother.

Hi Manny,

IMO, the CC is the 400 pound gorilla, considering its truth claims, papal infallibility, and so forth…not the EOC. Many southern protestants don’t even know the the EOC exists.
Lets face it…the CC is the largest branch of Christianity on the planet at present, and thus the most criticized.
Not even mentioning the fact that the Reformation was born from the goofs(indulgence abuse) of the CC, not the EOC.
I think there is a tendency to look at the CC as the “Empire” from Star Wars…while we faithful Protestants fill the role of “the rebellion” who is ultimately on the side of truth.

Respectfully,

Qui Gon Mudcat

Edit add…
Maybe we Protestants think of the EOC…more like the Hutts or the Ewoks.

I am not anti-catholic, I am not catholic, I am who I am.

I actually find the opposite true, but it may just be the circles we travel in.

Most of the protestants I know are very respectful of the Church and my decision to go Papist. Even online, most protestants I see on the boards and blogs I visit and post to are generally positive and amiable (with a few exceptions) and can debate and disagree without resorting to idiotic claims or bigotry. They have a great amount of respect for the Church’s authority and clear teachings, as well as her consistency in standing up against secular culture.

It seems like the most vociferous anti-Catholics I’ve seen are, ironically, the ones closest to having Catholic beliefs (high church Anglo-Catholics and Eastern Orthodox). Online, anyway.

Must be. In real life, no Orthodox I know has said anything bad about the RCC, at least that I’ve been around to hear. Not so with the variously affiliated Protesants I know.

Online is different of course. Everyone hates everyone online.

Ditto… 🙂

😃 Not EVERYONE!!😃 I don’t hate anyone…that is a “terminal condition” in more ways than one…

I’d agree with that. One of my instructors at college was studying to be an EO Priest. He and I got along famously. I only get real venom from (some) EOs online, and then it seems like it’s never the cradle Orthodox either. Go figure.

Generally speaking I think your observation is correct. I think the reason there is more anti-Catholicism in Protestantism is because they’ve done away with 1,500 years of living, breathing Christianity making Catholicism appear - at lest to many Protestants - alien.

Actually, we like to think of ourselves as the Jedi. Though I’m more of the Solo type.
How about Jar Jar Orthodox? lol
Im new, so I feel compelled to tell you I was joking.
Feel free to call me Jar Jar Evangelical, if it helps.
Nah there’s too many of you to be the Jedi, and you should feel compelled to apologize for bringing up Jar Jar at all.🙂

I don’t think Manny is asking, Why are Protestants more anti-Catholic than anti-Orthodox?, but rather, Why are Protestants more anti-Catholic than the Eastern Orthodox are? (That’s how I interpret the question, anyhow.)

in case you didn’t notice manny, you were just dissed by SIA.
