Why are Protestents offended by the Corpus?

Got a source for this?
Actually, this is accurate. It would not have occurred to the Christians of the first and second centuries to use the cross or crucifix as a symbol - they used images of the Good Shepherd at Mass, and identified their worship spaces with images of fish.

The symbolism of the cross came later.

I must say, as I was a protestant for ten yrs. I have never heard anyone say they were offended by a crucifix. Thats would just be silly. They prefer the bare cross to proclaim Christ is risen. I just bought a 3 foot crucifix to hang in the foyer:)
…to freak out your protestant friends? I’m joking, of course.

It’s not bad for a Catholic to have a bare cross. I’ve got several myself. I just prefer crucifixes because I feel they are much more down to earth. Probably the reason why protestants stopped using crucifixes was to show their separation from the Catholic Church.

I don’t were a crucifix on my person. Instead, I have a brown scapular under my shirt, and I wear a St. Ignatius Loyola medal over it. The scapular’s much more important, so I wear it on me EVERYWHERE except in the shower.

Hi, I just want to comment that suspicion of the crucifix is a lot more common in the uk because other denominations associate it with catholics and there’s a lot of prejudice here still. mary

Really? The Anglicans don’t seem to have a problem with it…
