Why are so many Muslims violent?

This may seem like an unfair question but when it comes acts of violence, Muslims are the ones that will feel justified by their relgion. Christians and everyone else it seems, when they do evil deeds, it has more do do with flaws in humanity in general. The fundamental difference between the Bible and the Koran is that while the Bible is a compulation of several books written across 1500 years by several different authors, Islam is believed to be written all at once, one time, by Allah, handed down from Gabriel. This would make the bible more open to interpretation, yet christians don’t go around bombing schools and flying planes into buildings. Does this have to do with Christians following the New, but not Old Testament since the New Testament makes the old one obsolete?

Anyways I talked to a Muslim friend of mine and he told me you can’t take little parts of the Koran to understand it but you have to read it entirely. When I ask him about all the violence committed by Muslims, he tells me they aren’t true Muslims. They don’t understand its true beauty and wisdom. Something doesn’t add up.

Could someone please give me a no bs scholary answer?
Muslims are more violent and backwards because they don’t have the benefit of atheist intellectuals ensuring their society is a sane, progressive, and tolerant place to live.

funny this would you care to share the verse before and after this verse? 🙂
I hate it when christians share one verse when they need three or four to understand the entire thing and then if a muslim does it to their bible they fly into a rage…how hypocritical.

It doesn’t get any better. You became disgusted and didn’t show anyone an example of how it helps you.

9:3 Yusuf Ali And an announcement from Allah and His Messenger, to the people
(assembled) on the day of the Great Pilgrimage,- that Allah and His
Messenger dissolve (treaty) obligations with the Pagans. If then, ye repent, it
were best for you; but if ye turn away, know ye that ye cannot frustrate
Allah. And proclaim a grievous penalty to those who reject Faith.

9:4 YA (But the treaties are) not dissolved with those Pagans with whom ye have
entered into alliance and who have not subsequently failed you in aught, nor
aided any one against you. So fulfil your engagements with them to the end
of their term: for Allah loveth the righteous.

9:5 YA But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans
wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for
them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular
prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is
Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

9:6 If one amongst the Pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he
may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure.
That is because they are men without knowledge.

Here is the problem with the above before and after verses. We have yet to see a treaty that is honored for any length of time and no one seems to care. When a pagan asks for assylum they are basically accepting Islam. This is where forced conversions come to play. The phrase ‘so they can hear the word of allah’ tells us what these people must accept.

The violence against the people are only because they are not believers and then the violence only stops if they convert. The term is really revert. The violence may not stop if the followers of a different sect or view of Islam think that others are not following Islam correctly.

And if you try to say that this only applies to a certain battle that Mohammed took part in then you just told us that the Koran is not for all people for all time.

The Koran shows us that it is overly concerned with the unbeliever. It wages a holy jihad against them even in their own lands, and until they accept Allah the unbeliever will know relentless jihad. And jihad is the assured way to gain entry into the Islamic heaven especially if they die while fighting.

Most people are unaware of this about Islam and this is why ignorance of Islam, Sharia laws and the Koran are so vital for Islam to grow. The dependence on ignorant Muslims also helps while their numbers grow and when they can safely start their Jihad. The ignorant Muslims confuse the unbelievers, and then comes the ones who are trained in taqiyya who continue the confusion and use the dualism in Islam. They quote stuff out of the Koran that gives the impression of peacefulness all the while the plotting and planning goes on.

I will say that it usually is more violent in the past but since Al Bana, Al Husseini, and many of their followers they have realized that a stealth Jihad is effective too. The violent Jihad is still being waged in many lands that is why we hear about so much violence in so many lands that involve Muslims.

‘And Allah is the best of plotters.’ We have started to become aware of this plotting and planning from obtaining such documents from the Muslim Brotherhood. A report called ‘The Muslim Brotherhood in the United States’ by Merley was compiled showing us what has been discovered. And how they have infiltrated, started organizations such as the MSA and got their political party, grow their ‘military’, etc all in our country. There is a comparable document that was found for a Jihad in Europe too.

  1. There are violent Christians as well.
Yeah, but our religion doesn’t recommend jihad, or approve of it.

Also we don’t run planes into buildings, and blow ourselves up. 😃
Speaking of that, has anyone seen “american carol”?

Oh, you don’t know why some Muslims are angry? Simple: Qutbism

Some time ago, a man named Sayyid Qutb theorized that Islam is constantly under attack – thus making it morally acceptable to offensively attack others. The war verses of Islam are about defensive war and violence…that is to say that if you are attacked, then you have the right to attack back. For many years, Muslims held strict to this ideology that you can only attack if your country or religion was attacked first.

Well, Sayyid Qutb basically theorized that Islam is perpetually under attack from various forces: liberalism, the west, democracy, you name it. The people who subscribed to this ideology then believed that because Islam is perpetually under attack, they have a right to “Fight back.”

In their minds, they are merely defending themselves, their countries, their culture, and their honor. To the rest of the world who doesn’t follow Qutbism, (Which is basically everyone but these guys) it’s clear that they are waging offensive war.

I’ve always seen it as this: Qutbism is to Islam as Jim Jones Theology is to Christianity.
I, planten, myself fully agree to what is said above. That is what i have been talking about in my last few posts. It was Syed Qutub and the other members of the Muslim Brothehood in Egypt who taught the subject of Jihad to Muslims there and about the killing of disbelievers. But there was a man in Indo-Pakistan by the name of maudoodi sahib who also believed the sme things. he wrote a book in year 1928 A.D. (when he was 25 years old). The book title was “Al-Jihad Fi Al Islam”. i.e. Holy war in Islam.

He explained some things about Jihad exhorting religious war with weapons. He even admitted that islam was spread by sword. He was a friend of the Brotherhood. They all tried to establish a government of the Sharia laws, i.e. a Godly government. Of course none of them succeeded. The reason being that they did not know the real meaning of things in Islam. They were misled people.

In Islam there is no order to establish any religious government by force. There is only order to rule by law and by justice. So why those people were trying to establish a Sharia government? They should have known that it was the wrong way to do that. They should have known that there were other religions too, in the world, like Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Budhism. Will they also not like to enforce their laws in a religious government of their religion?? Surely they would like to do that.

Hindus would like to establish a government of their religious laws. So will other faiths. That would make mor eproblems for the world and there would be religious wars in the world. There would be much fight in the name of God.

Jamaat Islami in Pakistan and the Brotherhood in Egypt tried their best to take over power in the country by any means. But they were un-successful. Maudoodi was much disappointed as a failure. But he pleased himself by the coming in power of Khumaini in Iran. Maudoodi made the statement that he was happy that after all, a government of Allah was established in Iran. He soon died afterwards.

I have always felt that the lesson being given to the poor Muslims about Jihad with weapons was wrong. Specially, since 1990 A.D. I have believed like that. That is nearly 20 years now.

But there is another matter too. There are Deobandi school of thought in India / Pakistan. In the near past, they have been the most serious proponents of Jihad. They had the maximum schools (Madrassas) and thousands of young students. They were responsible for all the trouble in Afghanistan and the tribal area of Pakistan. ( More later.)

Qutb only taught what was already in the Koran. Qutb did not make anything up. Yes, there is an order to establish their sharia laws all over the world and to even try to hint that there is not is telling us a whopper!

I don’t know who you are, but Al Bana started his movement about 4 years after the Ottoman Empire fell. He thought that having secular governments was a sacrilege against your allah. And Qutb was one of al-Bana’s followers. As was Al-Husseini and both Al Bana and Husseini played a big role in the holocaust. And the movement that these men were a part of is what is called the Muslim Brotherhood. Arafat was a part of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Saudi Wahabbi joined the movement sometime in the 20th Century too. They signed a pact with many other jihadist groups too, including Al Qaeda, Hamas, and as my previous post said, use such groups as the MSA, CAIR, ISNA, ICNA, ITS, etc as their tools.

This article describes this all much better than I do, and also much better than planten who is doing his darndest to mislead people.

I guess planten got fired, huh? hahaha

From what I understand, the majority of Muslims are peaceful and law abiding citizens. The fact that a few of them are violent does not mean that Islam itself is a violent religion. Of course, I could very well be wrong about Islam being a peaceful religion. Sometimes I do have to wonder.

Mohammed started his religion and initially was not violent, but after about 10-12 years he moved from Mecca to Medina, gained power and started his warring against others. And since Muslims consider him the perfect man they follow him as much as possible.

here is an example of Mohammed’s own words about terrorism in Islam: ‘I have been made successful with terrorism’. Are those the words of a man who thinks that peace got him ahead in the world?

The majority of Muslims indeed do not fight, but their zakat supports the Islamic jihad. At least 1/8 of zakat is to be given to Jihadists. And when the Muslims give of their zakat it is beyond them how it is distributed. I would say that some are probably ignorant as to how it is distributed.

They strive to establish their sharia laws in our lands and those laws sanction Jihadists. and abuses against unbelievers. Not all Muslims want Sharia laws and not all Muslims do things that are considered bad, but bad in Islam is described as haram and good is described as halal. And it is not haram to persecute, or kill, unbelievers. The problem is not so much that individual Muslims do violence, the problem is that Islam is the source for much of the violence perpetrated against unbelievers.

Here are a couple of articles that I have posted before and will post again:

Quote, page 5.
"Jihad is regarded by all jurists in the four major sunni schools, with almost no exception, as a collective obligation of the entire community. As fard al-kifaya, jihad is binding on the whole community, not just on individuals. If the duty is fulfilled by a part of the community (present day jihdists, for instance), then it ceases to be obligatory on the remainder. The whole community (ummah) falls into error, however, if the obligation is not performed at all. "
Ignorance of Islam and Sharia (Islamic law) is a Moral, Ethical and Existential Failure

Both of these articles tell us not to hesitate to learn about Islam.

This is a quote from a person who is far better versed in Islam than me.
“The texts of Islam, and the model of Muhammad, are on the side of those we call the ‘extremists.’ They have the textual authority. The other kind of Muslims do not. And those who are primitive and credulous tend always and everywhere to out numer those who are not, so that a policy aimed at protecting Infidels from those who take their Islam seriously must not place civilisational bets on those Muslims who do not take it quite so seriously.”

First and foremost it is a dangerous thing to believe that a book is written by God and to be a member of a people the book reveals is divinely chosen to reveal Him. The ultimate end for all non-believers is conversion or destruction. I appreciate Planten’s critique because it shows a people coming to terms with the conversion/destruction end of faith inherent in the Abrahamic traditions.

Because the Quran lacks an explicit eneogh teaching that safeguards them from the temptations to abandon their role as convertors of the surrounding peoples to destroyers of surrounding peoples, we see radical versions able to justify violent acts as the will of God. That’s why we see a muslim martyrdom that kills it’s enemies rather than a christian martyrdom that suffers death at the hands of it’s enemies. Muslim martyres have no signs of redemption that are inherent in Christian martyrdom… Contrasted with Christian martyrdom that suffers death at the hands of it’s enemies and has the visible signs of it’s redemptive value in the conversions experienced by it’s enemies,

Christianity is much less tempted by the conversion/destruction shift end of their faith because it’s spirituality is deeply rooted in suffering at the hands of enemies. So God’s will for His people doesn’t shift from conversion to destruction because destruction cannot become the fate of non-believers except by the authority and timing that is God’s only.

Without foundations that ground faith in a sacrificial love of enemies the muslims are subjdect to radical forms of it’s religion moving into the destructive role that is reserved for God

Do you see anything destructive in the Christian mindset that martyring themselves for their faith, in all instances, a good thing? What I am trying to ask is that what I see are Christians saying they are ok with martyrdom and that fighting is not prescribed for them, but when faced with what I will term, evil, they just chose ignorance and allow this evil to foster, or fester. There is a time to stand up to evil, to learn about it and they just chose to stay ignorant of it and think that everything is ok if they appease it and love it to death.

I don’t know if I would term Islam as evil, but it certainly is contrary to all the laws of civility, and justice, that I was taught. Just because they give an appearance of it, or say the right words which make it SEEM that it is not violent, its core is still violent and that violence is to be directed at the unbelievers. Even if the Muslim Brotherhoood were stopped in its tracks, there would be someone else picking up the torch because the teachings of Islam foster incivility and injustice towards others.

I hope I made myself clear.

Muslims are violent because islam teaches violence and hatred to others.Btw,it is not my personal opinion, but it is the direct order of Koran, but now Muslims are trying to conceal it by explaining the orders in their own way.

You may read the link

catholic.com/library/endless_jihad.asp

Read & show your friend these verses(bellow) from Koran. He might explain it in his own way like other Muslims of CAF do!.And also ask him/her that if you can’t take A little part of Koran to understand it,then how they(Muslims) claim that Koran is infallible?

Yeah, but our religion doesn’t recommend jihad, or approve of it.
I have been thinking about this subject a lot - and that about summing up the answer to the thread. Christians are commanded to love, never otherwise.

Muslims are commanded Jihad. Admittedly for the most part it is the peaceful Jihad - a battle within oneself for his own purification. But Jihad is also a justification to wage war and to kill for the cause of Allah. When a Muslim involves in the act of violence he can be justified if he is on Jihad.

Yes, that makes the difference between Muslims and Christians.

Why are so many Muslims violent?
The answer is in the Bible:

(Genesis 16:11-12):
The angel of the LORD also said to her: "You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.

(Matthew 7:15-16):
Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves, By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

A few thoughts:

With Islam, as with Catholicism, Protestant Christianity, Judaism or any religion, fanatics and nutcases inevitably get most of the attention, while the millions of people who quietly, peacefully, and faithfully live out their beliefs every day get little if any notice.

If you watch the news regularly you get the impression that pro-lifers and persons opposed to gay marriage are far more aggressive, violent, and prejudiced than they are in real life. The media also characterizes people opposed to the Obama health care plan as dumb, selfish, easily manipulated, or racist when most of us know that is NOT the case.

Most of us can think of other examples where members of a group are mischaracterized in the media, sometimes due to outright bias, but mostly due to the nature of news itself – the one house that burns down or the one plane that crashes makes news while the thousands of houses that don’t burn or planes that don’t crash do not.

Likewise, I would guess that for every violent jihadist Muslim or Muslim group that makes news – as they should, for there ARE enough of them to be a serious threat – there are probably hundreds or thousands who do not because they are simply living their lives in peace.

Also, there was until recently an example within Christianity of terrorism and violence that fell along religious lines – the Catholic-Protestant “Troubles” in Northern Ireland. Actually that conflict goes back centuries as well. However, the Catholics and Protestants in Ireland weren’t fighting over doctrinal issues like transubstantiation, the Immaculate Conception, or sola scriptura – they were simply fighting over who would get to rule the country. Likewise, at least some Muslim violence or terrorism is motivated more by political concerns than religious beliefs (which, of course, doesn’t make it any less wrong or dangerous).

Finally, it should be noted that Islam is a much younger religion than Christianity or Judaism. The Muslim calendar starts in 622 A.D. with the flight of Mohammed from Mecca to Medina. Therefore, its theological development and interpretation of the Quran would naturally be about 600 years “behind” that of Christianity, or more specifically the Catholic Church – putting it roughly at about the same level we were at around 1400 A.D. Seems to me that Christendom was struggling with violence, religious wars, and similar issues around that time.

It is true that the Quran does contain passages commanding violence against “infidels” but then again, the Old Testament contains orders from God for the Israelites to exterminate certain pagan nations, destroy all their idols and temples, etc. However, in Christian belief, those laws have clearly been superseded by the New Testament; and even within Judaism they are no longer active.

a question to the starter of this thread…how many violent muslims have you MET? and how many violent christians have you met??? appreciate an answer here. Personally I am yet to meet one violent muslim. however I have met quite a few violent christians in my life time. My own mother hit me when she was drunk and a gang of christians at my school beat me up last yr after they found out i had become a muslim.

I have met many violent moslems and also a few violent Christians. But that is not the current question. Why is it imperative for the Moslems to be violent?

I can cite a few reasons here, but there can be more.

Jesus asked his followers to love their enemies.
Islam teaches Moslems to kill their enemies.

Jesus asked his followers to forgive others’sins
Islam teaches Moslems to chop off the head or limbs of sinners.

Jesus asked his followers to be like the good Samaritan, ie to help someone who is in trouble even if he does not belong to your religion
Islam teaches Moslems to plunder non-moslem properties, and make their wives and daughters their own slaves or wives.

Christians allow Moslems or any other religions to practice their religion in their countries. They are so sure that Christianity is the true religion, that they do not feel threatened by people of other faith.
Saudi Arabia and many other Moslem countries do not allow other religions to build churches or temples or synagogues in their countries. They even block TV channels, books, newspapers etc out of fear that if their people know about Christianity, they would leave Islam. But they have no shame in doing in other countrie exactly what they prohibit in their own countries.

Christian Church allows Christians to convert into other religions if they want.
Islam orders Moslems to kill any Moslem that converts into another religion.

Christians allow Non moslems to marry Christian girls if they love each other.
Islam teaches Moslems to kill both the boy and girl if one of them is a non-moslem.

In a recent survey, it was estimated that 80% of the world’s population (Christians, Hindus, Bhudhists & Moslems) have at some time or other received service from a Christian institution like a school, nursing home, hospital, relief services, or an orphanage.
Though Moslem countries have substantial excess wealth from petro-dollars, they spend them all in buying guns, bombs, and fighter jets etc. Even in poor Moslem countries, Christian missionaries do more service than Moslem organisations. They run orphanages to look after children whose parents have died in fighting with each other, look after women and children left to fend for themselves by their fathers who marry second , third and fourth time. They keep producing children in every marriage, but do not send them to school but to madarasas, where Islamic Mullahs teach them hatred, and how to make crude bombs, and Arabic which is of no use to anybody in the modern world. The boys later become criminals, gangsters, or land up as fodder to Islamic terrorist groups who feed them heroin, and other drugs to make them into suicide bombers by telling them that they would receive 70 hurs in heaven if they die for Islam, and an additional one for every kafir they kill.
Moslems don’t run charitable organisations themselves, and harass others who do. In Indonesia, after the Tsunami, there were more Christian organisations doing rescue work in the affected areas. Islamists instead of helping them, were harassing them - sometimes with violence, and insisting that they go away.

wasalam, I could go on and on, but I think so much is enough to covince you why the whole world generally considers moslems to be violent; though there are a few peace-loving ones among them.

Come to my country Bangladesh. It is considered as a moderate Muslim country.I will show you millions of moderate Muslims who want to annihilate Jews from the world. They consider Christianity as well as other non Muslim religion as the path of Satan, and Satan must be destroyed.Zaki,if you met many violent Christian then I hope they were not religious fanatic. But if you come here I will show you millions of fundamentalist muslim( they address themselves as moderate!).I will personally show you lots of people who show their fake love to other people like Hindus and others. But on their(non muslims’) back they( Muslims) call them as pig, unholy bastards,Kafir,Satan worshiper, fraud, nasty peoples etc etc.And all are supported by Islamic scriptures( read sura 9 again. It called pagans as profane). So if any one hit you when drunk, you can not blame true Christians. But my friend, where you can find so called true Muslims?only CAF Muslims are true?I do not think so.Btw,these peoples(most of Muslims) even will beat you if you are really a liberal person, because they call liberal Muslims as Kafir!I do not want to think about extremist Muslim countries.I do not know how horrific they are.If most of bangladeshi Muslims’ mind are so spoiled then I have know Idea how horrific the Muslims from extremist countries! It is sad that people beat you because you became Muslim.I have full sympathy for you.But buddy,Muslim kills apostates. But still I am really sad:( because your school fellows beat you because you converted to Islam. They(who beat you) are not Christian but anti christians and fake Christians. But we have posted lots of Hadith that ordered to murder apostates, but Christian scriptures do not order to kill apostates

peace be with you.

PS.Here lots of Muslims(both educated and uneducated) got drunk and beat their wife .But I am not telling that it( beating wife while drunk!) is permitted by islam.Although every one know that Muslim men are allowed to beat their wives whenever they want.

Christians are bound at times to protect the life of others and perhaps lay their life down for others in circumstances that don’t make them martyrs but defenders of life. Christian martyrs don’t choose to die but choose to follow their Lord, as their lfe conforms to His the world that surrounds them responds ro them as it did their Saviour’s, Their suffering, like His redeems and is surrounded by the visible signs of redemption because their blood establishes a deeply rooted faith founded on their witness of Christ’s love, A christian matryrdom is not surrounded by the death of the enemies of Christ but their redemption.

Because Muhammed isn’t a model of sacrificial life muslims are not well protected from the delusion that the destruction of non-believers is a religious act that God sometimes calls them to do.
Ok, that is fine, but what I am saying is this concept that they can deal with things in a peaceful, but forceful, way to stop their countries from being Islamicized and instead they chose ignorance over doing anything and then what will happen is that they are paving the way for eventual violence since that is what always happens when Muslims start building up their numbers and get their Sharia laws infiltrated into the laws of the land. If you don’t think that isn’t happening here in the USA, as it is happening in Europe then you are not aware of some of the things they are working towards. This website Stop Sharia Now has information on what they are trying to push onto us.

And then they talk about martyrdom. We know that for Christians in Islamic lands they are dwindling in numbers due to the persecution. But Christians worldwide are doing nothing except being Islamic apologists and appeasers. And too many Christians are not putting pressure on anyone to help Israel out either. Instead they fall for the propaganda that a well organized propaganda machine in Islam puts out and continually ignore the violence perpetrated by Muslims in Gaza, and also in Lebanon. I am not saying that all Christians are doing this, but too many in positions of power are doing it. I remember reading an article where the Christians were asking for help and I have no idea where the rest of the world’s Christians were. They have no problem marching in to protect the Saudi and Kuwaiti Muslims, but when the real victims of Muslim terror cry out for help there is a silence.

The Saudis, and Kuwaitis, fund the Jihadists and whatever comes back onto them, so be it. I don’t feel sorry for them and they have done nothing to stop the violence coming from the Jihadists and instead have been known not only to have telethons to give them money, but have released the Jihadists and tell them to wage their Jihad off of Saudi soil.

I just read about way too many Ministers and others such as the Catholic Clergy doing absolutely nothing but giving out bad advice concerning Islam.

I don’t get how anyone can think Islam is peaceful or tolerant or anything but an ideology that is out to gobble up anything in its path. We cannot even talk about Islam without always having to say ‘not all muslims are violent’. They support it when they are silent or they give out disinformation about it. In our country, it isn’t even an excuse anymore for them to say they are ignorant about where their zakat is going. That information is readily available to them. It has been talked about when their charities were shut down. The only ones I would give a pass to are the ones who are newly immigrated over here. And I wonder why we haven’t stopped Muslim immigration. Instead we let in what we don’t understand and refuse to most of the time. The ones who are new converts I would not give a pass to since they have a chance to do research into Islam.

And my main point is that you’re looking at things in the wrong way to actually effectively answer this question. The question is not “Have Muslims as a world community been subject to stereotyping?” or “What percentage of Muslims do you all think are violent”.

Also, I agree with your point (A) as much as my personal experience allows (I certainly did not grow up as a Christian in Najran in the 12th century, or Somalia in the 21st, etc., but the Muslims I have known have mostly been nice, or at least not mean to my face), but point (B) is seriously lacking in some sort of imperical evidence. The verses calling for violence and maltreatment against non-believers are well-known around these parts, as is the doctrine of abrogation that is unique to Islam and makes picking which verse to “trust” difficult, AND the historical (and contemporary!) implementation of various readings of the Islamic writings against the non-Muslim populations of the East, Islamic Spain, etc. It is your assertion of the way that you wish things to be against all that.
Well, it’s certainly your right to believe that Islam is a violent religion. It’s just that it has no basis because the war verses were spoken by muhammad after he fought back against the Pagan Meccans, who were attacking his people. If you look into context and actually read the verses as they are instead of taking Osama Bin Laden’s interpetation, you will see what I’m talking about.

Not to mention that most of the war verses also speak about forgiving your enemy after the battle is over. Too bad that westerners subscribe to Osama Bin Laden’s ideology of offensive war instead of taking the interpretation that Islam has had for thousands of years.

I understand where you are coming from there; trouble is, under U.S. law, all religions have to be treated equally, and any restriction imposed upon Muslims purely because of their religious beliefs (NOT their actions or illegal activities) could easily be turned against Catholics.

What if Catholics were forbidden to emigrate to the U.S. on the grounds that their religious faith threatened the rights of abortion providers, women seeking abortions, homosexual couples seeking to marry, divorced people seeking remarriage, women wanting to become priests, etc.? All it would take would be for one or more self-proclaimed Catholics to be involved in an abortion clinic shooting or some kind of violence at a gay marriage protest, and there you go. I don’t expect this to happen, but you never know, and I wouldn’t want to set that kind of a precedent.

I do believe in reasonable immigration restrictions and I have no problem with keeping people out who have been involved with jihadist organizations or movements. However, to issue a blanket prohibition against ANY Muslim entering the U.S., purely on the grounds that Islam is an inherently violent or dangerous religion, would be opening up a huge can of worms that could come back to bite us someday.
