Why are so many people struggling with their sexual identification and orientation?

I am a guy who’s dealt with homosexuality, anyway, I think the reason is either 1, their are subtle differences you don’t notice, and/or 2, personality also plays a role, particular if someone is inclined to non stereotypical gender interests, they can have a harder time fitting in confidently with parents or peers, or if they are emotionally sensitive, they could be hurt more easily by something that wouldn’t affect another kid. They could develop social anxiety. There are a lot of factors, so its not super simple.

I got so confused during puberty, as I had very little guidance on sexuality, and so I explored my insecurities and shame about my body as it was changing unexpectedly and masculinity, and desire for connection, understanding and acceptance, into seeking out the male sexual images. It obviously did not go well. I’ve gotten better, but our society is getting filled with promoting the gay agenda and stuff, so sometimes I will see a music video that does this, and it will kind of freak me out, because I was trying to move past that stuff, and here is a video implying to me that homosexuality is the natural outcome of being close friends with another man, which scares me, and makes me think that friendship isn’t gonna work so I have to be gay. I think the sexualization of male relationships has contributed to the problem.

Some studies (accepting that to publish things like this is treated like a criminal offense now) say most homosexuals had absent fathers, abusive fathers, dominant mothers, or had earlier exposure to porn, or were sexually abused by someone.
Just to be clear, probably 80% of the population under 30 in American fits into one of those categories. So it may be an explanation, but it couldn’t be a complete explanation.

There seem to be a lot in tech because

almost every furry I started following on Twitter was working in a in a related field. Only later did I figure out the furry connection as their tweets rarely mentioned that.
Seeing as how it’s a culture that appeals to introverted people who interact on the Internet a lot, I’d expect a lot of them to be working in tech and computer-related fields. Tech folks are also relatively accepting of people who are into fantasy roleplay of all types, including furries, Society for Creative Anachronism types, comic con and sci-fi-con devotees, etc.

People struggle with sexuality because we’re finding that it’s not as fixed as once thought. If some sexual behavior/identity exists or is “accepted” or tolerated, then it is very possible for people to adapt to it and live it out. I believe this is the case for sexual orientation in many cases where sexuality is not fixed, even if the cultural norms and a person’s current feelings towards a gender may make it seem as such.

I mean, how do we even "objectively’ measure if someone is truly homosexual or straight as opposed to repressing their true feelings or being capable of being bi? I’ve yet to see a real objective and logical measure, and to the contrary, studies show that hetero women (college women ,on average) can be sexually stimulated by watching scenes involving same-sex sexual activity, and even non-human animal sexual activity.

Fathers in western countries can’t do their job. They are no longer the head of the household. The law has neutered them.

I disagree with this. It isn’t that the men of the past didn’t know that people could have sexual interest in all sorts of things. They knew this. They just were agreed on what you shouldn’t do. The fact of prohibition of sex acts tells us they knew very well what kind of sex men were interested in. They knew what normal was and, most importantly, tried to conform to it.

Better asked on a psychological or sociological forum, not a religious forum.

Just my opinion…

But also, none of the example you give are fair examples of “sexual orientation and identification.”

I can’t speak for every case, but being LGBT is not simply about being “bored” or even just purely environmental or social factors. It’s always more complicated than that. Regardless, one should never diminish the real struggles and experiences of other persons. There are homosexual, bisexual, etc. persons on these forums too.

Call me what you want – person with same-sex attraction, gay, homosexual – I just know that I’ve had strong emotional and physical attraction to other men for a very long time. And I would be God Himself if I knew why.

People have been doing all sorts of weird sex stuff since time began. We just hear about it more now that we’ve got the internet. If someone gets a boost of self-confidence from breast implants, what’s it to you? If someone likes to wear cat ears when they do the dirt, what’s it to you? Fur suits and breast implants can be utilized perfectly well in a traditional man-and-woman marriage too, yanno.

I find Benjamin Franklin useful here. “Look for virtue in others, and vices in thyself.” Or better yet “cast out first the beam in thy own eye, and then shalt thou see to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”

That’s a stereotypical concept, Edward, that has been refuted by the sociological community.

The issue is that it’s self destructive. If someone seeks for confidence boosts from breast implants, there’s a clear issue in that her (or his) confidence lies in such.

Of course, we also don’t want to offend God, and that is the main motive.

I guess? Then why wear makeup, or comb our hair, or get nice clothes, or shave, or use underarm deodorant, etc.

I can see the same argument for all of these.

Has it? I’ve looked into the literature carefully, and I have seen that theory marginalized and undermined, but certainly not refuted.

Confirming to societal “hygiene” makes much more sense.
Usually it is to help others. I do not know many who wear make up when alone, like I don’t know many who would do their hair when alone. It is for others’ benefit.
Of course, these things can lead to sin such as vanity, which is when it is bad.

To answer the original question,I think it is in part because the essence of Original Sin is to push into “forbidden” territory. You’ll note that as soon as one former sin becomes “normalized” in society, like homosexuality, the next forbidden fruit jumps in line. Now we’ve seen an explosion in transgenderism.
This whole string of hypersexual activities, and its consequences like abortion, pornography, even drug use, bespeaks an extreme hatred of the body. Since Catholicism holds that the body, too, is sacred, the devil is clearly at work today. At Fatima, Our Lady stated that more people go to hell through sins of the flesh than any other sins. It is a scary time.

A consequence of immanentism.

“Immanentism is a philosophy that holds that anything of importance is contained within the individual; the individual becomes the measure or standard by which things are judged. Immanentism essentially holds that exterior reality is not important except to the extent that we can express ourselves in it. What is really important is what is within ourselves. Immanentism came from many sources but three are of particular importance:…”
