Why are some Lutherans so Anti Catholic?

Being on a Lutheran website, I suppose it isn’t surprising that you got a Lutheran perspective on thins, which is what people say often when someone points out rude Catholics on CAF.

Some of the threads here about Luther and Lutheranism are extremely nasty, calling Luther a diabolical entity, a whore-monger, vulgar and crude, etc.

I suspect these are the same kind of people who are rude on Lutheran websites, just from “the other side”.

People are jerks because they need to make themselves feel righteous, or they don’t know any better.
A lot of it too is that it’s easier to attack someone from behind a keyboard.

I never seen any Catholic evangelism either
We don’t believe in stealing sheep, sorry.

Have you even heard of Mother Teresa, we could go on and on and on. How about St. Paul? Never see Catholic evangelism…huh. 🤷

Evangelism is not stealing sheep, it is telling people the good news of Christ. Not doing it is being lazy, or being scared, or other things but not sheep stealing that is just an excuse not to evangelize.

Paul was not a Catholic, he was a Christian. Mother Teresa didn’t evangelize either, minister yes evangelize no.

As one who has been told by Catholics that
[SIGN]Your church is a brothel[/SIGN]
and
[SIGN]You obviously have lots of demons[/SIGN]

I think I can attest that the “Anti” works both ways.

I was investigating the Roman Church but with how Catholics attack others here I sure don’t want any of that.
They are just as bad as if not worse on their own.

Just for grins and giggles follow a certain Catholic Poster TweetyMom…a 71 year old Catholic grandmother who loves the Lord.

She has a number of posters who stalk and gang up on her (they have caller her Protestant and a troll) because she is “not there” on some things (she came back to the Catholic church of her youth after a considerable amount of time in an Evangelical church).

Paul was not a Catholic…and I’m guessin’ you think Luther was not a “Lutheran”? Some of these one liners are priceless.😊 The fact that earlier believers were not always known as Catholics does not mean that they were not all part of the Church that Christ left us. You are reaching sir.

No you are reaching, Paul was never a part of the RCC and your correct Luther was not a Lutheran. A little education goes a long way, Christ did not leave a Church

I think the education needs to begin with you.

What is the Bride of Christ?
What is Christ the head of?
What is the,“pillar and foundation of truth”?

Protestant churches that “evangelize” other Christians, Catholics, are merely stealing sheep. It is the pattern of protestantism. Most churches grow through member transfers as opposed to conversions.

What is the best way to evangelize according to Christ? Serve others…in other words, minister to them.

That doesn’t matter, good manners go along way. I was investigating the Roman Church but with how Catholics attack others here I sure don’t want any of that.
Have you ever heard a Calvinist speak about an Arminian? How about a Baptist about a Methodist. How about John MacArthur about Charismatics.

None of the answers are the RCC

At least they don’t maliciously attack some for not agreeing with their church when they communicate

Christ said to tell others, not being lazy by not saying anything

You are not making your case by making references about education unless you are going to reveal yours in order to leave me in awe. So far you are batting zero and only embarrassing yourself…Merry Christmas

My only comment: How sad!

A simple question to Lutherans, I was on a Lutheran board and noticed how very anti Catholic they are. No Christian charity shown at all. Name calling of the Holy Father, making fun of our liturgy.

In fact, some Lutherans have liturgies that are very similar to Catholic liturgies.

I just wondered why all the hatred, many of the posters are pastors. Is this typical of some synods of the Lutheran church?

I know we have some lovely Lutherans on CAF and didn’t realize that many are as anti Catholic as some fundamentalists and evangelical churches.

I realize that on CAF there is debate on theology between Lutherans and Catholics, but I don’t see that many posters who defame and make personal attacks on the Lutheran church or its leaders.

Yes I know that things have been said about Luther, but in all fairness he attacked the Church first and in the defense of the Church some go overboard in some of their remarks.

It was sad to see. I don’t believe that anyone other than Lutherans post on this board, except maybe once in a while.

You can’t fix stupid.

I want to apologize for my last post to you, as you see I fixed it. I still believe you don’t what your talking about but I could have been nicer saying it

Gravity has always existed but was not always called “gravity”. It was named …probably by Newton but who cares, it was always the same force…even before it was discovered, understood and named. The Church was not always called “Catholic” or “catholic” but it is the same Church…whatever the name once was. St Paul made it universal by bringing Christ to the Jew and the Greek and that universality(catholic) is what we have today. Whatever St Paul would have called himself …I know historians would connect him solidly and unmistakeably with the early Church which came to be known as…Catholic. 🤷
Was Bhudda a Bhuddist? Probably not…in the same sense that Christ probably would not have described Himself as a Christian but the connection with a person and the movement which bears the name certainly doesn’t seem unfair or in most cases, inaccurate…does it?

I myself wonder this. In my short time here I’ve been called anti-Catholic and seen as a dim wit because I don’t think the Catholic Church is the one and that they alone gave us God’s Word.
You know…I wasn’t going to comment on this topic, but I had to because I’ve had the same experience as this person. I’ve been on the forum for 2 days and…I don’t know it’s weird because I’m a former Catholic, my family is still Catholic, most of my friends are Catholic and we get along fine. Somethings very different here.

We all believe in Jesus, we just worship Him in different ways. I for one want to build bridges here rather than tear them down. I also think the Catholic folks want to do the same thing. It stinks exchanging harsh words and accusations - let’s just not do it!

So, everyone, how can this sub-forum be better so that we don’t have to see a thread that reads, “Why are some _________ so Anti-Catholic?” or “The Catholics make me feel unwelcome!”

If we can sow peace in this little sub-forum on the web and spread that love - we could change the world! (Ok - dramatic - but we could be happier anyway!)
