but he was referring to Judaism.

you don’t think Jesus would approve of

Catholicism then?
The principle is exactly the same.

He approved of Judaism, and Im sure he approves of catholicism, but not the subversion of it anymore than the subversion of Judaism.

As someone who spent the first 40 years of his life on the outside looking into Christianity, Christianity is pretty messed up. If people eschew religion for spirituality for religion, then we’ve given them plenty of reasons not to.

That said, the Church looks a lot different from the inside than it does from the outside. It’s like our stained glass windows. From the outside they can seem dark, and even kind of confusing, but from the inside, they become glorious.

Another thing I wonder about is that if the protestant reformation didn’t somehow open up a permissiveness for creating your own spirituality. With the advent of denominationalism, no wonder individuals would think it’s OK to create God in their own image. From the outside looking in, it would seem that it’s OK.

Just because someone is Catholic or Christian for that matter doesn’t mean they are against homosexuality, birth control, etc… Some don’t agree with the churches teaching on many things hence the phrase cafeteria Catholic.
I doubt the protestant reformation had anything to do with folks finding their own way rather than adhering to what they were born into (for example). There are plenty of cults, sects, denominations within Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism as well. It is our nature as human beings to be always exploring, learning, etc… One size does not fit all.
