Why are some people opposed to Vatican II?

Is it because they feel the new Mass is not “Catholic”? I’ve had some tell me that the Priest is supposed to face the altar, and not the people. Some have also said freemasons have infiltrated the Church through Vatican 2…?

Some (not myself) feel that vatican 2
-protestantized the Mass
-opened up an excessive and unacceptable level of ecumenism
-Threw away many of the results of the Council of Trent

and many other things.

@Zynxensar,

I don’t know if you are anywhere near an EF parish (where you can hear the Latin Mass), but I challenge anyone:
Go to the EF Mass many times. 10 times. Then ask yourself how you feel about Vatican II, and the changes in the liturgy.

The OP frequently attends SSPX.

EDIT: No longer. My mistake.

I have, in the past. I used to go for Latin Mass at SSPX, but I have stopped now after realising they’re still not in communion with the Church. Several priests have advised me to stay away from SSPX too

There are various “arguments” to be made about the Mass pre VII and post VII. Some love the EF others the Norvus Ordo (NO) But each side is as Catholic as the other. Don’t believe that rubbish that somehow the NO is not holy or reverent. That is always the purview of the one attending Mass.

As to the freemasons, forget that nonsense!

Go to the OF Mass as many times…Then ask yourself if you feel the changes in the liturgy as a result of Vatican II separates you from God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

If it does, its not the OF or the EF or Vatican II that is the likely cause of your concern, it may be something to do with an egocentric rather than theocentric approach to our faith.

Pax et bonum!

Maximillian75 you stated:

-protestantized the Mass…in what way?
-opened up an excessive and unacceptable level of ecumenism…John 17:20 Jesus prayed that we would all be one? How is this possible if we don’t engage one another.
-Threw away many of the results of the Council of Trent…what results.

Simple statements without concrete examples are meaningless

A lot of people are looking for simple explanations as to why the world has changed since the 1960’s, and V2 is a convenient whipping boy- at least when discussing the decrease in mass attendance, catholic schools, priests, etc.

Personally, I think all of that is a complex problem with a lot of moving parts, and returning to Latin isn’t a panacea but would actually make things worse at least in the short term

Why are some people opposed to Vatican II ?

Probably for rhe same reason some people were opposed to the other twenty Ecumenical Councils .

They don’t like submitting to the Magisteium when the teaching of the Magisterium runs counter to their opinions .

Has anyone ever told you that roads are for horses, not for cars, because that’s how it was for centuries. If they did, would you pay any attention to them at all?
