why are some rejecting the cup

^^Which gets back to my question. Without a legit reason for abstaining from the Body of Christ, one should not be receiving the Blood only?
My stance is that if both are available, it is a good Christian witness to receive both - unless you have a serious allergy or illness that prevents you from receiving one or the other.

The “it’s yucky” excuses seem childish, to me.

Which would then come back to those who do not receive from the Chalice (without an alergy, etc ) as “not” being good Christian witnesses.

I have at times received under both species, but I prefer to receive under one species. I actually, like very much the taste of the wine, and have no health issues, or phobias.

I receive the Sacred Host alone and on my tongue because it reminds me of my First Holy Communion and thousands of Holy Communions after my first, and because it is how most of the saints in heaven received Holy Communion here on earth.

I understand that the Sacred Host is the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ, and I receive daily, because Jesus has put that desire in my heart. This is heaven on earth for me.

Some people desire to receive under both species and the Church has made this available at times. I don’t think it is right to judge people’s reasons for receiving under one species or two.

Could you explain exactly what ‘Christian witness’ is happening that does not occur in the reception of one species alone?

You’re not obeying Christ’s commands to eat and to drink.

No,it just means they’re avoiding one of the signs that Christ gave us,for no good reason.

Anthony, perhaps you have finally gone to far?

This was brought up before and you never directly answered it. Council of Trent Session 21, Chapter 1:
Wherefore, this holy Synod,–instructed by the Holy Spirit, who is the spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the spirit of counsel and of godliness, and following the judgment and usage of the Church itself,–declares and teaches, that **laymen, and clerics when not consecrating, are not obliged, by any divine precept, to receive the sacrament of the Eucharist under both species **. . . neither is it rightly gathered, from that discourse which is in the sixth of John,-however according to the various interpretations of holy Fathers and Doctors it be understood,–that the communion of both species was enjoined by the Lord : for He who said; Except you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you (v. 54), also said; He that eateth this bread shall live for ever (v. 59); and He who said, He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath everlasting life (v. 55), also said; The bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of (lie world (v. 52); and, in fine,- He who said; He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood, abideth in me and I in him (v. 57), said, nevertheless; He that eateth this bread shall live for ever (v. 59.)
Your assertion that Christ commands communion under both species seems to be in direct conflict with this teaching of Trent. And in direct conflict with all subsequent teaching of the Church.

Would you consider changing or moderating your position?

anthony022071—the following has been provided to you before. Your statement --contradicts the the Council of Trent. Please reconsider your position.

CANON I.–If any one saith, that, by the precept of God, or, by necessity of salvation, all and each of the faithful of Christ ought to receive both species of the most holy sacrament not consecrating; let him be anathema.

It means the canon is limited in scope only to those who are not consecrating, i.e. laypeople and non-celebrant clergy

You’re not obeying Christ’s commands to eat and to drink.
Actually, you most certainly ARE obeying the commands.

Do your eyes see flesh in the Host, no, but your throat eats flesh.

Likewise, your eyes do not see Blood in any species, but your throat drinks.

Your throat might not react to that accidents of Blood, in much the same way that your eyes do not react to the accidents of Blood. But yet it is truely what is there.

When you partake of one species, you BOTH eat and drink, even if the reaction of your mouth and throat to simple accidents does not.

Really Anthony, if we followed your conclusion, and Christ’s word meant simple physical reactions, then it would follow that a deaf person cannot be saved.

After all, Christ said “He who hears my Word and believes shall see everlasting life”. If Christ was simply refering to the physical effects of His personal sounds striking someones eardrum and generating neural impulese, then a deaf person cannot be saved.

But Christ, instead, was refering to hearing His words in one’s Heart, the physical means under which this is accomplished are unimportant. It could be reading, it could be braile, it could be someone tapping morse code on the back of a deaf\blind person’s hand. All of which is “Hearing” the Gospel.

So which one is it Anthony? If you are correct, deaf people cannot be saved because they cannot follow Christ’s command either.

The answer is simple, in the Eucharist we consume Christ, the entirety of Christ. We bring Him into our bodies. Christ is Alive with both Flesh and Blood, living blood, fluid blood. Since each species is fully Christ, with living flesh and living blood. Since we consume both, we both eat flesh and drink blood. Even if the accidents say otherwise.

What ‘sign’ exactly and what exactly does this sign signifiy that is not present in Host.
The sign of the Eucharist is the bread and the wine together (not one of them, separately) - bread alone, there is no sign. Wine alone, there is no sign. Both together, this is the sign.

Again, I am talking about the sign, here.

The full sign value of the Eucharist is to receive both, after the Consecration.

What they signify is the undivided Body and Blood Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ.

Like a hologram, any part of the sign (there are two parts to the sign of the Eucharist) becomes the whole - yes, you can receive one part of the sign, and you will receive all of Jesus. One crumb of the Host is all of Jesus. This is the thing that the sign signifies. Any amount of the Host and any amount of the Chalice is the full sign - increasing the amount of the Host or increasing the amount of the Chalice makes no difference to that aspect of it.

But it is of greater sign value (a better Christian witness) to receive the full sign, rather than just one part, when it is possible to do so.

Priests must do so at all times, and if there is no wine or no bread available, then he may not say Mass at all - it is forbidden for him to omit either one.

For lay people, it is not required to receive both, or even either one, except for once a year during the Easter season. But “I don’t have to” does not translate to “I should not.” We should not be thinking in terms of the least we can get away with - we should be thinking in terms of doing the best that we can possibly do, given what is available to us, and what is reasonable and possible for us.

Greater Christian witness? Is that your terminology here?

I have to disagree with this logic. There are many reasons one may have not want to receive from the cup. I would think few of them are related to minimalism.

So is it your assesment then, that a single species by itself does not Signify the undivided Body, Blood, Soul and Divinty?

That there is nothing in an individual species that points towards, or lead the faithful towards, a unified Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ?

Not by itself, no. The two things - bread and wine - are the essential elements of the Eucharistic sign. Bread without the wine is nothing but bread. Wine without the bread is nothing but wine.

The two together are the one sign.

Your idea that these Catholics who are receiving under one species, for other than health reasons, are minimalists is absurd since many of the ones at my church receiving under one species also go to Mass and Communion daily, and seem to go frequently to Confession. There is no indication that they as you phrase it are “thinking in terms of the least we can get away with.” There is no indication that anyone receives under one species alone because of minimalism. You are judging peoples hearts who are receiving Holy Communion and are having serious misperceptions.
