Why are the church bells specifically rung during the Gloria on Holy Thursday and the Easter Vigil?

Why are the church bells rung specifically during the Gloria on both days? I can understand why they are rung at the Easter Vigil Mass because He is risen, but why on Holy Thursday? Why during the Gloria?
 
The Maundy Thursday Mass is one of joyful solemnity celebrating the institution of the Blessed Sacrament , hence the singing of the Gloria accompanied by the ringing of bells .

It’s one of my favorite parts of each Mass. 👍
 
It also highlights the following 50 hours or so of silence.

You actually point out the principle reason. While there is great joy in anticipation on Maundy Thursday, there is also terrific pain to endure on Good Friday before the ultimate celebration and rejoicing of His Resurrection.
