A homily is different to a dentist. A homily is a lesson given in a scenario where the teacher does not have the ability to repeat until the student gets it. It ideally should be memorable enough so that the information can be retained or at least enough to act as a starting point for more information.Yes, we need priests who are emotionally intelligent, but what about just expecting them to tell us the unequivocal truth? If they do that, does it matter so much how “engaging” they are when they tell us what we need to hear? Of the work of speaking and listening, part of the work does belong to us, right?
