Brand new member to the forum, and 2-years into my Catholic faith. A Catholic co-worker, when she found out I was converting, told me “get ready.” I had no idea what she meant, and told her so. She smiled and said again, “get ready.” Boy I found out quick what she was talking about. Questions poured in. “Why do you Catholics do this/that?” My dad, who could best be described as a born-again evangelical, said “I’ll pray for you son.” This caused some offense, and opened up a discussion which went well, all things considered. We’ve never discussed anything else on the religious front, other than generic stuff. Since then, I have had conversation after conversation with others and have become - if I may say so myself - pretty good at repelling attacks on a variety of standard fair-game topics (the Real Presence; Mary; priests forgiving sins, authority of the Church; “faith alone”; etc., etc). But one question my dad raised has stuck with me, and this is the first time I’m attempting to get a good, solid answer:

Why are the Protestant and Catholic Ten commandments different? That’s what my dad said to me, as proof that Catholicism was somehow skewed. I replied - off the cuff - that it had to do with translation, as well as reformers tailor-making the Commandments to their choosing. So…

Any and all answers are most certainly appreciated. Good to be here!
