1200 years after the fact, I doubt Christ nor St. Jerome were much impressed with Luther and what he thought. Because it was exactly that.Luther did not think much of St. Jerome who is often called upon by those in favour of the shorter Palestinian canon:
I quote from his Table Talk:
" Jerome should not be numbered among the teachers of the church, for he was a heretic; yet I believe that he is saved through faith in Christ. He speaks not of Christ, but merely carries his name in his mouth."
He thought he, a lowly monk was qualified to interpet and change what he wanted. Luther decided he knew better than Christ how to interpet the Word of God. Thus we have the deformation and anyone can tear up scripture and interpet it however they please.
