Why are there no more public miracles?

I’m not arguing miracles don’t happen at all or that miracles has seized completely n the modern age. I know abou the miracle at Fatima & ao forth.

My question was rather about the cause for the seeming lack of everyday miracles at the local level in societies that are not 100% catholic or Christian?

It’s great for us who already know there’s a God to hear about the miracle at Fatima & Marian apparitions worldwide & so forth. It confirms faith. But for the average man & woman, hearing about a miracle means little more than hearing about the miracles in the Bible 'cuz it’s a claim that has no authority for atheists / secularists as it can’t be verified by themselves or objectively in a way they would accept.

In the ancient world, the miraculous was something which everyone seemed to experience in things like healings & apparitions, even to pagans or arians who didn’t believe in Christianity but who changed their mind because they or someone they know & trust experienced a miracle confirming Christianity.

If you are asking about “seeming” lack of miracles in either non-Catholic/non-Christians societies, I’d say that they do happen, but we may not be hearing much about them here in America–not unless it’s something truly out of the seemingly ordinary. Miracles aren’t the product of belief, per se, but they are evidence of belief no matter who believes or what their theology because God hears the prayers of all who call upon him, who are seeking for the truth. God rewards this devotion with many little miracles, which are a blessing to those who receive them but are not necessarily meant to convert unbelievers. It is the Gospel that converts, the Gospel lived out in our lives and in the way we treat others, our prayer life and our standing for God’s law.

I wonder why is it that there are no public miracles in the western world these days? The kind of miracles that not just 1 or a few close people experience?

I’m studying the history of Europe during the period of what’s usually termed the ‘Dark Ages’ after ‘the fall of the Roman Empire’ (although this is ambiguous & a later assertion), 4-500’s & onwards, I’ve come to realize what an incredible power miracles had on society & the conversion of Europe to Christianity & specifically Catholic Christianity as opposed to Arianism. For example, Gregory of Tours history of the franks, the bishops & monastics of Nicene Christianity performed a lot of miracles which the Arians couldn’t do & this had the effect of eventually converting the goths to Catholicism. I believe Gregory was right because at that time, the goths, who were Arians, were more powerful politically & militarily than the early franks.

Many times miracles was associated with relics of saints, but not always.

Imagine that at least someone of all the people you knew had personally experienced some kind of miracle, such as being miraculously healed or seeing an apparition of Christ or a Saint etc.

Someone already mentioned it, but I will comment anyway, because it is what I was thinking. Miracle of the sun at Fatima?

Don’t ever forget that there is a public miracle at each and every Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Absolutely! In the Consecration of the Holy Eucarist, Holy Communion miraculouly changes to Jesus’ Holy Body and wine miraculously changes to His Blood, the Blood of the new and everlasting covenant. This is a glorious miracle at every Mass.
