Why are there so many mean-spirited people on these forums?

This indicates to me that these “members” of the forum do not have a true commitment to Jesus Christ… seeing as how they don’t seem to emulate Him too well…

Just wondering if anyone else agrees and/or has any suggestions? I am bringing this up because i believe “snotty” answers drive people off the forums…

and even if they didn’t, it just isn’t right to act like that… I guess they are the more to be pitied…

i have to agree with you. snotty answers do not help at all. it only shows that there is a lack of charity on the part of the person who acts like that. i think sometimes people just need to sit back and take a breath.

charity goes a long way. if one is in a particularly bad mood, then the only thing i can suggest is pray about it. of course, people’s support can go along way as well.

but avoiding acting snotty is always good. it doesn’t achieve anything to be a snoot. charity is what we are called upon to act like and that is always a good thing to remember.
 
The internet can be a juvenile or adult delinquent’s paradise. Or “let’s get a rise out of them Catholics.”

You can’t see them. You don’t know where or who they are. Some should be addressed, some should be ignored and others should be brought to the attention of the moderator.

Thats what drill instructers in the military say. It is usually unfounded. DI’s tend to be “mean spirited” while working. I thought it was ironic and funny. Tim

There are mean spirited people, and mean spirited posts by fine people, because they are tolerated. That’s it, if they were not tolerated, they wouldn’t be here.

And, lots of time, it is the smilies that give the “mean” tone. I’ve read perfectly nice posts, but the smilies showed they were being sarcastic, banging their head against the wall, etc.

Just because they don’t use the words “**** you” doesn’t mean that some people aren’t talented enough to let a person know that’s what they mean.

If people want to discuss/debate, but everytime they do so uncharitably, they are called on it or their post removed, they will stop, and take the time to share their ideas without the ire.
If they are only here for trouble, they’ll get tired and move on.

On a huge and popular site like this, it is hard to “police” the forums, we have to either report mean posts, or call people on it ourselves.

It’s just like society, we pretty much get what we are willing to tolerate. How much “freedom of speech” do people want on these forums?
 
How does putting a smiley after a nice post mean that someone is being sarcastic? I am getting to the point of being afraid to post. You can’t voice your opinion or disagree with someone or else you are being nasty. You can’t post a nice post and put a smiley then you are being sarcastic. You can’t voice your frustration with something by putting the banging head that means you are also being nasty. So tell me what is the point of even bothering to post. We should all just be of one opinion and have no minds of our own.🤷

Yep, kind of like road rage. You do/say things to people from a distance that you would never say face to face.
