The BBC story and Wiki article both speak of the same group.

In the US we have people who do the same thing, it is called “Psychic Reading” and is popular TV entertainment. As I said it is mostly fraud, much coincidence and there could be demonic influence.

Stay a bazillion miles away from this sort of thing.

Things are true regardless of whether they have been double blind scientifically studied. It simply means that the thing in question has not been double blind scientifically studied. One wonders how such a thing could even be done with what is supposed.

If such a thing were true, it is either a gift or a deception and so discernment is necessary. If it is not true, then they may be frauds as you say.

You haven’t shown us any research findings. Has the Institute for Research and Application of Human Potential published any reports giving full details of the experiments it has conducted—who did what, where, and when—and the results obtained? Those details would constitute the research findings.
 
I have the website of The Institute for Research and Application of Human Potential. They just research zen, Qigong and things related to extrasensory perception.

This is a website of a Religious Order. It is not an official Catholic website (like the Vatican website). I am sorry that there are Catholics in your country who are mislead. The best thing that can be done for the dead is to offer Mass for their repose.

I studied this Randi thing in Anthropology a long time ago.

My opinion is when use of special gifts like this are explicitly monetized they are not authentic or come from somewhere negative. Like generally.

I don’t think we have a monopoly on mystical things though…

The use of legitimate gifts to make money does not automatically negate those gifts. Besides, even if there are legit psychics who have no interest in money, consider the good that could be done with that money. Why not earn it and donate it to a worthwhile charity? There’s also the fact that it would presumably legitimize and provide evidence for the existence of paranormal capabilities, a major step forward for the sciences and human understanding of the world. Unless all the “legitimate psychics” in the world have agreed that they don’t actually want to let people know psychic abilities are real, then there is absolutely no reason not to come forward and do a demonstration.

Add to that the number of self-professed legitimate psychics who did go for the money and were unable to demonstrate any abilities, and the evidence continues to mount against the phenomenon.
