IKE hit Galveston TX and pretty much wiped it out. For several days prior to the storm hitting, residents were warned to leave or face imminent death. Most did leave. Some rode it out. Those who survived, which thankfully is most of them, are now roaming the streets looking for clean water, shelter, in need of prescription drugs, etc. These people were warned in advance that the state would not be able to rescue them after the storm as it would have its hands full trying to deal with the majority of the damage areas trying to restore power, water, etc.
Still, in the aftermath most of the efforts are now rescue.
So what is it about us that makes us rush in to rescue even when we say we won’t?
