Historians of the time wrote little about any religious figures at all. So when any references are found it is extraordinary.
So you’re saying that not one historian would consider mentioning a guy who heals thousands and even revives a dead person?
His works were witnessed by thousands. His appearance after Resurrection was witnessed by thousands.
That is an assumption which has no evidence. THOUSANDS witnessed his resurrection and still not one historian or other person decided to write that down during the time of the event??..hmmmm…It’s a matter of belief which the majority of humans don’t believe. How belief varies already shows that you share a complete different belief than the Vatican when it come to the age of the earth. You believe it is 10000 years old while even John Paul II believed in a 4 billion year old earth. Just goes to show how different the opinions are nowadays.

No there aren’t. There isn’t even a hint of an explanation of why brain activity is correlated with consciousness at all. That there are correlations between the two isn’t in doubt, but correlations are not explanations.

There is a correlation between heating water to 212F and the water boiling. In addition to that correlation, there is an explanation of why the correlation exists. The explanation is something over and above the mere observed correlation. Medical treatment of stroke patients, as well as the methods of anaesthesiologists, make use of the observed correlations, but there is no explanation for them.
“Go sell crazy somewhere else.”

Well, I asked for a source that “demonstrated,” not one that merely speculates, and written by a man who has no scientific background in this area.

But okay, you found a source. Well done. It’s just one guy’s opinion though, and it doesn’t agree with the groundswell of opinion.

Also, as one commenter pointed out, he’s not being very scientific (well, he’s not a scientist) - he doesn’t offer any alternative explanation.

btw, it’s hilarious how you guys think that summoning up an atheist who disagrees with other atheists somehow destroys atheism! People are allowed to disagree, you know. It isn’t the weakness you seem to think it is.
As I said - we can start there.

Let us start by asking the question - where did the historians of the time live?

The Jewish historian Josephus - “Now there arose at this time a source of further trouble in one Jesus, a wise man who performed surprising works, a teacher of men who gladly welcome strange things. He led away many Jews, and also many of the Gentiles. He was the so-called Christ. When Pilate, acting on information supplied by the chief men around us, condemned him to the cross, those who had attached themselves to him at first did not cease to cause trouble, and the tribe of Christians, which has taken this name from him is not extinct even today.”

and

…so he assembled the sanhedrim of judges, and brought before them the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ, whose name was James, and some others, [or, some of his companions]; and when he had formed an accusation against them as breakers of the law, he delivered them to be stoned…

Now again - remember that the Jews desperately wanted to “erase” Jesus from the minds of the people. It is remarkable we have the recordings of Josephus.

Let us turn to Tacitus a Roman Senator - "Consequently, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular. "

Suetonius - a Roman general records - “He banished from Rome all the Jews, who were continually making disturbances at the instigation of one Chrestus.” and "Punishment was inflicted on the Christians, a class of men given to a new and mischievous superstition."

Need more?

Let’s finish this before we go back into age of earth and like the like.

News alert: Josephus was BORN after Jesus died.

I’m not saying there were no followers/believers who were executed years later. I’m saying there is no written document when Jesus was alive.

So - historians born after WWII are respected. (You are not a WWII denier are you?)

What is important about this is they were still talking about Jesus.

.
lol…well, WWII was well documented during the war so to compare that is ridiculous. THERE ARE NO DOCUMENTS WRITTEN OF JESUS, HIS LIFE, HIS TEACHINGS, HIS DEATH and RESURRECTION WHILE HE WAS ALIVE.
Why didn’t Jesus write down any of his teachings? I mean if he is God you would think that would be the least thing he could have done.

Matthew was a tax collector and they had a form of shorthand. Read Matthew. They are first hand accounts. Many current historians believe he took notes and then published them later.

Look to archaeological evidence from new found sites to add more evidence.

I’ve read Matthew more than once.

I don’t believe Matthew personally wrote the Gospel but hey, it’s stupid to keep on arguing. I’m not trying to convince you that Christianity is wrong.
I just believe that Christianity, plus Judaism is the result of some ancient Egyptian religion. One religion evolves to the next and each new religion developed from the previous. That’s how it’s been since the first prehistoric humans walked this earth and prayed to the moon, and that’s how it will be in the future.

OK

I believe we are here because we are all children of God, and he loves each and every one of us as he loves himself.

Blessings

As a Catholic you don’t just rely on the Bible because many things can be interpreted wrong. I’m sure the Church does not teach a person to hate this life or view life the way you see it.
My contention that we ought not take pleasure in the things of this world and not love this miserable and corrupt life is based on several sources:

Holy Scripture:
Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
-John 12:25

Catholic prayer:
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

Testimony of a Great Saint:
*The Golden Key to Heaven
by Saint Anthony Mary Claret

The death of the just: Death will reach everyone, the good and the bad; but the destiny of each one is quite different. The just man sees himself in this valley of tears as a prisoner, serving a very hard term. He considers himself a slave in this world, suffering an extremely distressing servitude. He regards himself a sailor caught in a horrible storm. And as death means an end of his confinement, an end of his slavery, and is the port of his salvation, he ceases not to cry with David, “Woe is me that my sojourning is prolonged!. . .” (Ps. 119:5). He ceases not to ask with the Apostle, “. . . Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” (Rom. 7:24)*

Orthodox Judaism:
Refraining from indulging in the pleasures of this world is only a fine preparation for avoda (service of G-d). Avoda itself is transforming the physical into a vehicle for G-dliness
– Hayom Yom, Sivan 17

THERE ARE NO DOCUMENTS WRITTEN OF JESUS, HIS LIFE, HIS TEACHINGS, HIS DEATH and RESURRECTION WHILE HE WAS ALIVE.
Precisely what does that prove?
Why didn’t Jesus write down any of his teachings?
He didn’t come to sit down and write a book but to enlighten people who were mainly illiterate and to establish a community which has taken His message to the entire world from an obscure province of the Roman empire and lasted a mere two thousand years…
I mean if he is God you would think that would be the least thing he could have done.
Has His teaching survived despite His execution and the persecution of His followers? If so why?

Depends on the evidence.

Christ lived and died - no serious historian denies that. His works were witnessed. God the Father Revealed Himself to us. Connect the dots…

Catholics have a lot of evidence.
True. Jesus’ grave was found empty, and He Himself was found walking around, by more than 50,000 witnesses, many of whom (8 in particular) gave their testimony in writing for us to read today. 🙂

Unsubstantiated assertion which fails to refute my statement.

Irrelevant.
Unsubstantiated assertion.

Unsubstantiated assertions.

Unsubstantiated assertions.

consensus…
Unsubstantiated assertion.
Is this your latest strategy? Discount anything you can’t answer by labelling it as irrelevant?

And Oh! the irony of you accusing me of making unsubstantiated assertions!

And I had to giggle at the way you so primly corrected my spelling… by correcting a letter other than the one I got wrong…
The most adequate explanation of the universe is its creation by one Supreme Being
Yes, yes - so you keep saying. But that’s not an explanation, it’s just a statement. I’d like you to explain to me what happened. You’re so quick to discount a naturalistic explanation, I’d like to hear your alternative explanation. I can’t my request any clearer. WHAT HAPPENED?

As I said - we can start there.

More from Tallis the clinical neuroscientist.
Remember I asked you to cite an article that demonstrates your rather strong assertion that, “evolutionary explanations of consciousness have failed.” So far, you’ve pointed me towards two articles by the same dude, both of which have been received with quite heavy criticism, and which in no way amount to “demonstration.” Tallis’ reasoning is faulty.

The other thing to remember is that, to date, there is no alternative theory that provides an explanation for the existence of consciousness. At best (for you), we can say that the question is still unanswered. But when it is answered, my money’s on science, rather than religion or philosophy to provide that answer.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but personally, I’m here because one night in August 1953 my mother and father couldn’t resist each other.🙂

I believe we are here to learn the difference between right and wrong by experiencing it first hand. And hopefully, we will learn to choose right and give God the praise that is his due.
