Why are we obliged to have Godparents

Or, create a type of ministry of people able and willing to be Godparents and have them educated and ready for those who do not have family/friends that are willing to fit the bill.

This is a good idea too. There’s a list of people in the parish who are willing to be confirmation sponsors for those who don’t have anyone that qualifies. They seem to be much more choosy about who can be a confirmation sponsor than who can be a God parent.

So true. But I think this is because there is little to know push back regarding Confirmation Sponsors, since Protestants don’t have then and Confirmation Sponsors are not part of secular society like Godparents are.
