Why are Wednesdays considered penitential days in the Catholic Church?

Yes thanks, I realize this, but I wish to do some more penance and asceticism, and after praying and discerning with my SD/confessor, Wednesdays came up. I am so glad of it, and my life has been blessed because of it.

I think every day ougtht to be lived as a day of penance. Now is the time to grow holy and closer to God in Union with Him.
