Why are you here?

I mean “here in the CAF Sacred Scripture forum” not here on earth (although that would be an interesting thread as well . . .)

I am often confused by the direction of threads, and I wonder if we are sometimes working at crossed-purposes? Is it that I don’t know what this area is for (the moderator description says “to discuss Scripture” ) or is there something else going on?

For myself, I come here because I have had the advantage of a great deal of Scripture study and education, and feel a certain responsibility to share what has been given to me. I like the outreach/service that CAF offers and feel that in a small way I am able to be a part of that ministry. When a question is asked about which I have some knowledge, I share what I can. When I have a question related to Scripture, I ask it, and look forward to hearing from others-particularly from others who are faithful to the Church’s authority. Often a subject comes up that I am not well-versed in, and I learn from others. When someone asserts something that is contrary to what I’ve learned, I go do research and, sometimes, come back to suggest a correction.

What confuses and frustrates me is when I respond to what appears to be a question, only to discover that it is in fact a trap, set by someone who just wants to start an argument. Or at least, that’s what it feels like to me. Perhaps someone will explain it to me in a better way.

But I’m curious - you SS regulars - why are you here?

I’m here because I like to talk about the daily readings, and other scriptures.
How can you avoid people with opinions? You can’t.
I wonder if you could join the answer panel here “ask an apologist”?
They don’t seem to argue much there, if at all.

I’m here because I like to ask questions about my faith, (converted & confirmed Easter of '08), I mean, I just learned today what a Douay-Rheims Bible is. I am discovering facets of my faith I never knew existed. I get kinda annoyed with a few things on this site. A lack of knowledge from fellow catholics making them easier targets for others, arrogance on the part of people that have a lot more time to read apologetics & since they believe they have a win win arguement, they refuse to listen, no matter what gets said, I’m still full of it, and they feel they have achieved a victory filling their ego ballons even more, as for myself, I’m scripture & apologetics heavy, but not history of the church heavy, and I intend to turn that weakness into a strength. I have a stack of books LITERALLY as tall as I am (5’10") lol with nothing but books on the faith, history, customs, lives of the saints, glossaries, dictionary, mass, st, michael, confessions of st. augustine, 7 or 8 bibles, 2 books on apologetics, catholic almanac, the list goes on…the confirmed catholics companion, the rule of benedict, what a catechist should know, THE STORY OF THE CHURCH, I mean, all these books, because I didnt know too much & I am learning quite a bit from fellow catholics here. I just wish people came here with the mentality of I’m either going to teach something, or I’m going to learn something…not lets see how many idiots I can school today. It gets tiring & old and it’s very sophmoric to say the least. Believers trying to convince other believers that the way they prcatice their faith is wrong. Thats like a vegetarian telling another vegetarian they’re an idiot for putting tomatoes in a sandwich. It makes no sense…I mean some people might as well ask questions like is the color green square or round? is the color yellow dull or pointy? Some people come in here spoutin & spewing & make no sense whatsoever! Ok, I’ll get off my soap box. The bottom line is we’re ALL Christians. Some act like it, others dont.

I suppose. I just find it annoying - I have limited time and I’m trying to make the best use of it. I EXPECT arguments in the Apologetics forum - but then, this is a subforum under that one.
