Why Are You In Your Present Parish?

An interesting range of answers … Chatter Cat is very correct I think.

I am a revert. At Mass, Christ is there in the congregetaion, the Word, the Priest and the Eucharist. When I attend Mass - I dont really require an outstanding choir… a terrific homily or, while nice, fellowship after Mass. I go for Christ ESPECIALLY in the Eucharist - which no one can get in any Protestant denomination.

I’m not sure i would care much if the sanctuary looked like the inside of an empty shoe box

if the priest were enthusiastically, totally, absolutely… dyed in the wool… orthodox Roman Catholic…

However, for the most part, I agree with what you said here. 🙂 I’m an only child. I personally LOVE silence. I completely agree with you in that people don’t really learn how to just sit still and be quiet. Isn’t there something about, “Be still and hear me?” Or some such quote?

You’re absolutely right; that small quote was out of a much larger one by BernadetteM. I didn’t even notice that you were listed as the author. All I can figure is that there was a quote from you that I didn’t see included when I set up the new message, and that I cut out both BernadetteM’s name and the remainder of both quotes when I set up the reply.

At any rate, it was totally unintentional mistake. Sorry about that.

It is never by sprinkling. It is either by immersion or by pouring. Sprinkling is done for the renewal of our Baptismal Vows which we do at Easter Vigil every year. The priest uses an asperges and dipping it in a bucket of holy water sprinkles the congregation, but Baptism is never by sprinkling. In any case, as a Baptist, I am presuming that you will already have been baptised validly so you will not be baptised again. You will be a Candidate rather than a Catechumen and will receive the remaining Sacraments of Christian Initiation of Confirmation and First Holy Communion.

Yup, sometimes this is where discernment comes into play. Is the Lord silent because I’m in disobedience? Or because absence of a “do this Now” is the equivalent of “don’t do anything yet”.

Thank God for the Rosary. If there’s a better way of getting focused and attuned than a daily trip through the flowers, I sure wish somebody’d share it with me.

ummmm, “sponsors?” Never heard that one. And now I just got re-confused. The nearest Parish is a block away. The nearest Catholic family (and likely sponsors?) live across the street…and attend another Parish.

Don’t worry about sponsors. If you don’t have one, then the parish will assign a volunteer. I had no sponsor when I first asked for Baptism. Also, don’t worry about it if your assigned sponsor doesn’t show up much. Mine only showed up for the ceremonies, Rite of Election, Easter Vigil. Perhaps if they had been Catholic friends leading me to the Church, it would have been different, but we were new to the parish, having just evacuated from Tehran, so we didn’t know anyone there yet.

Father, I lift ez3714 up to You. You know his heart and how he yearns for You. Make Your Will known to him so that it is clear to him what it is that You require of him.

Good points! On top of that, missionary priests (like the Franciscans here in Japan) are impressive linguists. Latin wouldn’t be a problem, then. I always give a priest the benefit of the doubt when it comes to study: those guys sure know their stuff!

Priests belonging to Religious Orders all learn latin during seminary. They also learn Hebrew and Ancient Greek. I know for certain that Dominicans learn Latin during formation.
 
There are always several Masses offered in each parish. They are usually a little different ie. the choir/ priest. The Catholic Mass is not a show. It is not a feel good thing. The NO Mass has deep meaning and is the same in all parishes. Make some friends and get involved. Our parish has a lot of social activities which is great. Good luck!
