WHY ARE YOU NOT CATHOLIC?
- (1) Your current religious adherence
- (2) Why you are interested in Catholicism – after all, you are here at CAF
I consider myself a Protestant that doesn’t protest Catholicism. As a matter of fact, I think I have more in common with Catholics than I do with some Protestant denominations. I hear a lot of “Catholic bashing” from Protestants and just as much “Protestant bashing” from Catholics (even on CAF) and it truly hurts my heart.
I’m interested in Catholicism because you all are my relatives. Yes, we disagree on some things, but we have the most important things in common and I believe that dark days may be coming when we will need to stick together.
My biggest issue with Catholicism is the Papal Supremacy. I’m not fond of the worship of the saints either, but a priest explained to me that the word “worship” is a different word in the Greek (or maybe Latin?) than the one that we use for the worship of God. He also said that we used to use the term “Your Worship” for judges, even if we didn’t like the judge because the word (the same one used for Mary) is one that is given to someone who has earned great respect, regardless of your feelings about the person. So, I thought that was a great explanation. I do feel, though, that the issue of worshipping Mary is a huge divider, and that we should just focus on the things that are explicit in the Scriptures, and then just love each other when we have differing non-essential doctrines (which is what the Marian doctrines are; non-essential).
Anyhow, blessings to my Catholic brothers and sisters. Regardless of how you feel about me, I love all of you and I will continue to support you.
