Why aren't Mormons following James Strang?

This person appears to be a critic ---- some folks on the forums here are critics. To tell me that I should know who this person is, the church has over 16 million members - should all the active members know who this person is?

Critics can believe and do as they will.

The Holy Ghost is a spirit and can be in multiple places at the same time.

Again am not familiar with this at all. Frankly I happy to not know.
That is the attitude of many LDS I know. They prefer not to know anything that might challenge their faith. They are groomed by their leadership to react this way to anything that could be considered “anti-Mormon” (as they call it). It’s a way to inoculate members against any information that may be damaging to the church. They go as far as to make those who do ask the tough questions feel bad for doubting. But it is a reaction of ignorance. The real history of the LDS church is the number one reason why so many once faithful Mormons are leaving, and the church knows this.

So you are telling me I should have been cautious of what the missionaries said to me years ago and concluded the church had things to hide? I have concluded that you Anti Mormons, this is your agenda — to destroy the faith of folks like me (you are failing regarding myself).

Is it your possible intention to grow the crowd of Anti Mormons when telling me this stuff?

The church has a lot of things to hide. It’s obvious. When I was a missionary, I taught with the old “flip charts” which showed JS translating the gold plates running his fingers across the engravings. The church now admits that he did not do that. He buried his face in a hat and read the seer stone placed therein. That’s just one of many examples.

In my case, that’s an absolute “yes”. Why would you not warn someone if they were chasing after lies that might cost them their eternal salvation?

The translation of the Book of Mormon occurred, regardless of what the prophet Joseph Smith went through in doing that act.

From my thinking whether it is the example cited when you were a missionary or the number of First Vision accounts (bottom line for me he never denied the First Vision) or something else ---- I get it now — your view is the church is a liar and not upfront about every little detail about everything ---- this makes it false?

I had issues with Catholicism long before I left it so your throwing these things about to try to convince the LDS church is all the things you say are not going to work on me.

My conviction is not going to change, regardless of what is said on the forums, on catholic.com or elsewhere.

I caution against seeing them as a same interpretation. Mormons use the same words but have interpreted or redefined the words themselves, to mean entirely different things.

As an example, baptism. The Catholic understanding about Baptism, such as, the forgiveness of original sin, and being our entry into the life of th Holy Trinity, where we are made adopted sons/daughters of the Father, are wholly rejected by Mormonism.

Almost without exception, reinterpretation of Christian words and terms is towards supporting a radical redefinition of the word “God”, by Joseph Smith.

Well, there are a lot of lies. You simply cannot deny that. That’s pure fact. But I have never said that is the case about everything. Those are your words, not mine. I don’t think anyone defending the truth should have reason to lie. But that’s just my opinion.

You know, your church has this thing where they say they can leave the church but they can’t leave the church alone. That seems to fit you well. You leave the Catholic Church but you troll catholic websites. Sounds like you’re having second thoughts about the truths you walked away from.

Oh, and JS didn’t translate any plates. But I understand your vigor. I was you a few years ago. I get it.

Do you deny that your leaders from JS on have told lies after lies?

I would love to hear you deny this.

A good example of this, is the word Trinity. Mormons will use the word, but they mean something very different. This is from my reading of Mormonism, remember I’m not Mormon and I’ve never been a Mormon.

Why are you so defensive regarding this? In almost every post you claim, with no supporting evidence, that the agenda at hand is to bring you back to the Catholic Church.

You believe the LDS claim to be true, okay. Most of us here do not because most of us are Catholic. It’s almost as if you have a paranoia about why we dialogue about issues. There is no hidden agenda here, just discussion.

That’s exactly right, I can’t make you believe something you don’t want to believe in. I don’t know what’s going on with him

My only agenda is to find the truth. But if I come on to a Catholic forum and some angry Mormons confront me spewing their lies, I’m not going to remain silent.

Mormons lie and are specifically instructed to lie. I KNOW THIS. I was one of them.

I honestly did not know that they were instructed to lie. But, if they’re instructed to lie how do I know that their claims about the Book of Mormon are true about being told by the Holy Ghost that this is true because they believe it? People lie about religious experiences all the time, it’s sad but they do.

I should start a new thread about this. It’s not a subjective topic. It’s undeniable. They are based on lies.

Unfortunately, this day takes me away from most communication with y’all.

I wouldn’t take it personally…I’ve been the target of the silencers for a decade and I honestly think for the most part, the behavior comes from fear. Fear that a personal apostasy could happen to anyone, most fearful for themselves, a spouse and other loved ones. And fear of the truth.

Not all LDS people are seeking our silence but our response is still the same. Truth in confidence and love. We are called to be charitable and merciful, but not called to be doormats.
