Why Be Catholic And Not A Protestant/Evangelist?

Protestantism is based on two pillars, sola scriptura and sola fide–with the exception, I believe, of Anglicanism, which denies the latter. Eastern Orthodoxy has never taught these doctrines, so it cannot be classified as part of Protestantism.
So they are just…others?

From the Catholic point of view, the Orthodox are in schism. And I imagine other Protestants might view the Anglicans as “aberrant Protestants” for denying sola fide. 😛

The Orthodox Churches were once within the structure of the Catholic Church. Use of the term “Orthodox” to refer to the Churches of the East dates to the Middle Ages. As has been indicated to you, they are in schism. The Catholic Church considers them sister Churches and works and prays for reunion.

Protestantism is a heresy. Protestants themselves, today, are not material heretics. They were raised in Protestantism, but did not cause it. By virtue of their valid baptism, they are in relationship with the Catholic Church, although the relationship is imperfect, and are considered “separated brethren.”

The Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ in A.D. 33 in Jerusalem. The Orthodox Churches, originally part of the one Catholic Church, are also apostolic. They have maintained apostolic succession, have a valid priesthood, and therefore have valid sacraments. All Protestant ecclesial communities (there’s only one Church, one Ekklesia) were man-made in or after the 16th century. We know the names of their founders and the date and place of their origin.

Calgar,

I have reviewed many of your posts and I see a trend. It appears to me that you are not familiar with the history of Christianity in a larger sense and thus your questions.👍

My understanding of Baptists is that at their origin their were two types, the European Baptists and the Particular Baptists. The European Baptists gave origin to the German and Swedish Baptists. The Particular Baptists gave rise to 1814 Baptist Missionary convention from which the Southern Baptist, Northern Baptist and many other Baptist conventions sprang from. Your Souther Baptist line of heritage would be from the Particular Baptists. Is this correct?🙂

Hi everyone. I’m posting this question is also for a friend who wishes to know Jesus but she is confused regarding the different denominations of Christianity.

I myself find myself to be siding with Catholicism as the true way, but she is afraid that Roman Catholicism is a cult, as she has been into a Mormon Church and somehow found that RC is similar to theirs (based on an evangelist website, which of course does not speak the full truth regarding the Catholic Church and her teachings.) and do not want to be misled.

I am also not yet a Catholic but I still believe that God has led me to defend His one true way and so I tried to refute the points stated by the evangelist protestant regarding the Catholic Church (which are not uncommon - the ‘worship’ of Mary, salvation through good works, authority of the Church vs. sola scriptura, etc etc.) from what I myself have learned, having going through the Apologetics forum…

But she is still not yet convinced, but by refusing to take up any denomination, by praying at home and not going to Church and just reading the Bible, is that not also a Protestant way??
Just wondering… 🤷

And if so, what can be done to convince her?

I was hoping we could maybe go through RCIA together… O.o

Thanks for your help and God bless uu all!!
Have either one of you been to a Catholic Mass, or researched the Order of the Catholic Mass?

Have you read the Catechism of the Catholic Church?

I believe that any research into Catholicism, from Catholic sources will dispel any myths, including those involving “cults” and “worshiping Mary”.

You’ll find that this type of nonsense and anti-Catholic propaganda has been created by Protestants and Anti-Catholic groups for many years. Also there is some confusion caused by non-observant, poorly catechized or “former Catholics” who either don’t know or understand the Catholic faith… or by those, who by their own actions, removed themselves from the Catholic Church and the Catholic Sacraments.

I think you’ll enjoy RCIA… what a wonderful experience that will be for you both, if you attend RCIA together. . 👍

Yeah I did some background research and still found it to be the Truth (or by way of ‘relativism’, is the MOST true of all. After all, if God guided me, how can it be wrong?)
I try to bring her to Mass one of these days… 🙂
