Why be Catholic when one can get to heaven regardless of religion?

Hi,

The other day our priest attended a Q&A session at a local high school. Along with an imam, rabbi, and Protestant minister, he fielded questions from the audience. Some time after the sessions, on a Saturday, he gave a homily and the gist of it was: “If you’re a [insert religion] can you get to heaven? Of course you can!”

Well, then why be Catholic? Why not be a Lutheran? Or Muslim? Or simply a deist? Have faith, do good works, and you’ll go to heaven regardless of your religion. Quite a few people were confused.
