I’m curious why we owe God anything. I can kind of understand the reasoning behind the answer “because he made is” but… We never chose to exist or come into this world. It’s not really our choice to be alive most of the time. Life is full of suffering and often burdensome and who else can you blame but God who made everything.
I relate to it because many times in the past I have felt the same way. I did not want to exist.
What I learned, though, was gratitude is an action more than a feeling.
For example, when depression or illness oppresses me, I can still tell God how much I hate it or am angry about it, etc., but I also know that He is all Good, all Love, all Mercy. I know He is Perfect, and I am not. Therefore, I realize He cannot be wrong; that whatever suffering is permitted for me - it’s for MY good. He doesn’t will the crushing, but He wills the diamond that will emerge. In fact, after certain trials I’ve actually been able to look back and see the changes in me that have occurred. And thank God for that!!! But I give God my gratitude because He deserves it, even if there are no grateful feelings to go with it. It’s a conscious choice. It also discourages the devil who enjoys causing us misery and wants to use it to turn us from God. Bonus.
