i can understand how it can make us happy, i think.

but why can a beautiful piece bring tears to our eyes.

(other than associating sad memories with it, i mean.)

Go to the Trad sub forum and you’ll find hundreds of people crying about the music at mass:p

I listened to this earlier on a post with a link. But the link had someone playing it on an organ. The link didn’t last long before it was cut off. The music just hit me. I can’t explain it. It made me cry. This link is not the same link. Same music though, but this version doesn’t make me cry. But when I went to post the link, I had originally heard and cried, I cried again.
Heres the link that made me cry youtube.com/watch?v=PEzuXJ0rOJM

yes, beautiful:)
that happens to me too.

“heavenly choirs of angels” - it seems to me that God loves music - it is a gift from heaven… and something inside us knows it… from the first time we hear “happy birthday” or “twinkle twinkle little star” we all became music fans… it’s beautiful.

Music is like 1 Corinthins 13: “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away.”

Most of us can’t get that close to God… but for music… but all of us can appreciate music…

I don’t know why, only that certain types of music make me cry. Four part harmony (mostly traditional hymns) can have an immediate effect, carillon music, and, strangely, barrel organ music. It’s embarrassing, especially since I’m a guy. If I am in company I have to make a quick exit.

Music evokes emotions somehow. Some makes us laugh, some makes us cry. Sometimes it’s the beautiful lyrics. Sometimes it’s the tune and instrumentation. Sometimes it’s a wonderful voice. Sometimes it’s inexplicable. It’s a wonderful thing though, and I’m glad we have it. Makes life that much better :).

Since lots of people are posting songs that make them cry, I thought I’d post mine. I’ve never actually cried to it (I don’t cry easily, but I get emotional) but it’s probably the closest I’ve come. It’s the end of a 14 minute masterpiece by Nightwish, called “Mother and Father.”

The lyrics really get to me:
Be still, my son. You’re home
Oh, when did you become so cold?
The blade will keep on descending
All you need is to feel my love.

Search for beauty, find your shore
Try to save them all, bleed no more
You have such oceans within
In the end I will always love you.

How beautiful they are!

-You are very gentle, Dear brothers sisters.

:angel1:
-Are you cry for the music, Dear brothers sisters?

Ah, Brothers sisters! I was not that sensitive to cry when listen to music, and my mother was thought that I am very sensitive perhaps I am.

I am sending you this song from my sincere heart.

Well, I have always heard it said that music is the language of the soul. I’m not sure if that makes sense or not but anyway.

what a beautiful song Roselily
thank you from my heart:):)🙂

I had a theory that we in the west are conditioned, like Pavlov’s dogs: emotions can be triggered and controlled through music. I once tried out my theory while on piano, leading a trio at a small dance. I played a tune at a fast tempo in a major key and everyone jigged ecstatically around the floor. I slowed down the tempo and all danced closely smooching. I continued, playing the same song slowly but in a minor key and they were still cuddling, but many were weeping. I wondered if we could all be controlled by music in Huxley’s brave new world.
But I still dont know why I cry when Rimsky-Wotsit’s Scheherezade plays. A lot of it is in a major key:confused:
