Why can't drivers stay behind the white line?

Traffic design policies haven’t caught up with modern vehicles.

When an SUV, truck or minivan is sitting in the left turn or left through lane, and you are in the right lane, you CAN’T SEE if there is approaching traffic, so you don’t know if you can turn right until you pull forward enough to see around the ‘urban assault vehicles.’ Then if there IS traffic, you are stuck there because the guy behind you pulled forward when you did.

Won’t be fixed unless they set the stop bar for left and turn lanes further back than the right lane stop bar.

This is one of my pet peeves too. A pedestrian crosswalk is not a launch pad for turns nor for “gunning it” when the light changes. I was inches from being hit by a motorist who drove in front of me, causing me to bump into her car. A witness saw everything and heard her shouting at me for “damaging” her car; she followed as I walked several blocks.
Then there are those drivers who move into the crosswalk when the green light comes on, then stop! This sometimes causes rearend collisions.
