Why cant God just communicate with us directly?

Perhaps god isn’t appearing to neoplatonist because no matter what god says, Neoplatonist won’t listen. But if that were the case, then certainly nothing that you can say will change his mind. If you believe that direct communication can influence Neoplatonist, the reason you give for why god doesn’t directly communicate with him just doesn’t work.
And yet Jesus commands his followers to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Why does this seem to be futile sometimes? Jesus says “But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

Ensuring he exists would negate the purpose of religion, we are called to have faith, not to Know.

They were chosen in their times to spread His message. We are called to spread his message, but we already have it’s fullness presented to us through the Bible and the Magisterium of the Church. As such, direct communication isn’t all that necessary.
You are missing the point. Jesus never said that we will hear him through a church. Jesus said that He would not leave us orphaned, that the Counselor will come and teach us all things. If you listen Jesus will and does speak to all of his body through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit moved men to write the Bible, He is charged with teaching it to his people. Please get along with Jesus and listen.

Go out and tell people that you’ve communicted with God and let me know what kind of reception you get. God doesn’t communicate with us directly?

God, through the holy Spirit does communicate with US directly, we should pray for more of the Holy Spirit every Moment. God is talking to you through the Gospels, when the Priest reads them, and Why YOU MUST go to Church, especially when you desire God to talk to you and your admitting you not listening. Whats funny to YOUR question is that numerous people that ecountered Mary and her directly invoking people, usually gets people persecuted by those who dont want others to Hear God… Do or would you endure that?
People in their sin dont want others to hear God, If you dont go to Church then neither do you want yourself to hear God…
The infalable Church is God speaking to you directly also, but its now very Fashionable for poeple to deny that. Yet accept presumption they are going to Heaven.

Go read the Cathechisms of all types, especially the Saints, they were listening and often payed a price for being Good Listeners to God through the Trinity.
Open your Heart, Soul, and some times your ears.

Jesus never said that we will hear him through a church.
Jesus said: “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Hi all, I’d just like to give my two cents in this matter. 🙂

I think the reason why God doesn’t communicate with us directly is that He wants us to use our higher capacities in having a relationship with Him.

Human beings have the capacity to go beyond the knowledge that is initially given to them. For example, when we look up at the sky, we initially see that it is colored blue. The knowledge that the sky is colored blue is a “given” because we are able to notice it almost immediately by our senses. We don’t need to exert our minds just to know that the sky is blue. However, to know the reason why the sky is blue does need some mental exertion and scientific study. Now, I think most of us would agree that this human capacity to know what is “beyond the obvious” is higher than the simple ability of humans to know the obvious. We use more of our intellectual capacities in going beyond what is initially given than remaining in it. Also, the things that we get to know beyond the given are often more important. After all, if our knowledge didn’t go beyond the sense information that we initially receive, then we would probably be no different from other animals.

And I think that’s the reason why God doesn’t literally talk to us. If He did that, then our knowledge of Him would be obvious or a given. But if that is so, then what would be the use of our reason and intellect? There would be none, since if God is the highest goal in our lives, then once we know Him, we need nothing. But still, the higher capacities of our minds and souls would be wasted. Our ability to know that which is beyond the given and the joy that often comes with knowing these hidden things would be gone. No longer would there be scientists that marvel at their discovery of some previously unknown principle in physics.Neither would they feel the satisfaction of having their hard efforts be rewarded by such a discovery. There also wouldn’t be anyone who would appreciate poetry or even a witty joke, since doing so would need going beyond the given literal meaning. Finally, Faith and Hope, which are such beautiful aspects of our human experience, would be gone.

I hope that what I said was understandable. My knowledge of this idea is still sketchy :D. It actually comes from my hazy memory of what St. Augustine and St. Thomas More’s arguments were as to why scripture shouldn’t be literal.

You have had about 23 pages of responses. Now, why don’t you describe what you mean by agnostic theist? And just as importantly how does that system help you in your day to day living? You seem to reject anything that organized religion has to say, so enlighten us. And then perhaps you could explain what you hope to acomplish here?

Why *can’t *communicate with us or why doesn’t he?

What do you mean by communication? Catholics believe that God sometimes gives us graces about his presence or existence. Are you asking why doesn’t he talk with you or the majority of human beings like a regular person? well, I guess there can be several reasons; God wants to test your fidelity to his commandments without presenting himself or maybe because he doesn’t want to. 🤷

God likes to test his children.

Tests are fun.

He tried that once and look at the result. 👍
Hi Linus, He actually tried it twice, once on Mt.Siani and of course Jesus of nazerath.

Exodus 20: 18- 21
18 Now when all the people perceived the thunderings and the lightnings and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking, the people were afraid and trembled; and they stood afar off, 19 and said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will hear; but let not God speak to us, lest we die.” 20 And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to prove you, and that the fear of him may be before your eyes, that you may not sin.” 21 And the people stood afar off, while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was. 22 And the LORD said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the people of Israel: `You have seen for yourselves that I have talked with you from heaven.

Would his visit to Elijah at the cave count? 👍

Why cant God just communicate with us directly?
Did read all the post, don’t know if some one already said this. God does talk to us through The Holy Spirit, His Church, and the Bible, all of creation. It is easy if you stop and listen.😉

“The worst prison would be a closed heart.” - Pope John Paul II:)🙂

How would God do this? There are 7 billion people.

I’m not sure what you are asking. That he do this how often? Or once?

Or just to one person, or to everyone, everyday, minute, second, year.

And why should he do this? How would he appear to us? that is in what form?

And why is this necessary as long as he communicates to us in some way?

I’m not sure just what the reason and all the what, when, where, when, how’s.

Maybe you might explain just what you would want or expect.

thanks.
I’m thinking the question was “why don’t God present Himself to us in person like He did in the old days?”
