God has spoken to large groups of people historically (parting of the Red Sea) and individually to hundreds of millions of people of faith. Or are you calling everyone who claims an awareness and intimacy with God, liars? The Patriarchs, prophets, saints, martyrs, doctors of the Church, ordinary men and women through the ages, etc. are all liars, deceivers or just deluded?excuse me. but that is what i am arguing about here!
read the title:
Why cant God just communicate with us*** directly?
your comments are best suited against the bible god character. speaking to a handful of people and baypassing everyone else.![]()
Maybe the “us” includes all of the above, but you are dismissing them all for your own definition of “us.”so let us hear from God “who is”.
note: “from God”. not “from you”, not “from some priest” or “from some book”
I am certain that Jesus’ resurrection must have been an “ACCIDENT.” A large group of people somehow confused the message that started out as “Jesus rested with the dead,” and morphed it telephonically into, “Jesus rose from the dead.”liars? not necessarily. you know “pass the message”? a long line of people who transfers a message from one mouth to another. what it proves is that when word of mouth is concerned LIES ARE CREATED BY ACCIDENT. the message gets distorted. thats why most people are smart enough not to trust HEAR-SAY. the difference today is that through education more and more people are learning the fact that major religions are created through hear say. especially christianity.![]()
The problem with this “theory” of corruption of the message is that Jesus’ life, death and resurrection correspond so perfectly with the underlying theme of the entire Old Testament. Additionally, it is not possible to contrive the past 2000 years of history, retroactively to fit the events predicted in the previous 3000 years.
The Book of Wisdom was written in Greek in the first century BCE by an Alexandrian Jew. Do you think he somehow got things “confused” before the fact or do you think the Apostles somehow jerry-rigged their story to fit the then obscure writings of this fellow about 100 years before their time?*Let us lie in wait for the righteous man, because he is inconvenient to us and opposes our actions; he reproaches us for sins against the law, and accuses us of sins against our training. He professes to have knowledge of God, and calls himself a son of God. He became to us a reproof of our thoughts; the very sight of him is a burden to us, because his manner of life is unlike that of others, and his ways are strange. We are considered by him as something base, and he avoids our ways as unclean; he calls the last end of the righteous happy, and boasts that God is his father. Let us see if his words are true, and let us test what will happen at the end of his life; for if the righteous man is God’s son, he will help him, and will deliver him from the hand of his adversaries. Let us test him with insult and torture, that we may find out how gentle he is, and make trial of his forbearance. Let us condemn him to a shameful death, for, according to what he says, he will be protected." Thus they reasoned, but they were led astray, for their wickedness blinded them, and they did not know the secret purposes of God, nor hope for the wages of holiness, nor discern the prize for blameless souls; for God created man for incorruption, and made him in the image of his own eternity… (Wisdom 2:12-23) *
What about this interesting bit from Plato’s Republic:
Strangely coincidental, even eerily prophetic, from a culture that thought crucifixion to be barbaric and never used it until Alexander. What they will say is this: that such being his disposition the just man will have to endure the lash, the rack, chains, the branding-iron in his eyes, and finally, after every extremity of suffering, he will be crucified, and so will learn his lesson that not to be but to seem just is what we ought to desire. … (Republic Book 2, Section 362)
