Why can't I get my question answered? Heaven and Hell

I really want to know the thoughts on this question. Should I not ask it? Is it inappropriate?
I want to know whether someone who commits many terrible things in his lifetime but accepts Jesus before death, will he go to heaven? This is what I have been told. And even though I live a thoughtful, compassionate life, I am going to hell because I haven’t accepted Jesus.
Please answer.
