I am worried that I will not remember everything at my first reconciliation, or that I will get too overwhelmed and start leaving things out. It’s a lot of things to face in such a short amount of time. I know I won’t remember everything, so why can’t people be rebaptised Catholic?

Be not afraid.

The priest says something like, “for these and for all of the sins…”

Do your best. Don’t worry about leaving stuff out.

You can’t be rebaptized because baptism leaves an indelible mark on the soul.

God bless you through the rest of RCIA.

Well…if you honestly forget things when you go to confession, then when the Priest absolves you for your confessed sins…your sins that you forgot are also absolved…but it isn’t the case for sins you willingly do not mention.

I am a convert as well, 15 years ago. Welcome home to Rome! 👍

The Nicene Creed says:

“I believe in **one **baptism for the forgiveness of sins…”
This is what our Faith teaches and therefore we believe.

As far as your first confession, there are a couple of things to cover the sins you have forgotten to mention (hey, it happens to the best of us)
  • after prayer and an examination of conscience at home, write down your sins, the worst ones first (don’t put your name on the paper and be sure to shred it or burn it) my spiritual director and confessor would allow me to bring in my list to help relieve my anxiety…this was after years of not going to confession.
  • at the end of listing my sins in confession I will say something like “for these sins and any that I have forgotten I am truly sorry.”
God bless you.

In my prayers,

Debbie
