The foundation for the modern day interpretation that priests cannot marry came out of the Council of Trent in the 13th century, prior to which not only priests but also bishops and popes were. I am hard pressed to see this statute as an absolute, save for an interpretation by mortals. As well, I firmly believe that this has led not only a discouragement of otherwise well qualified and dedicated men & women from serving, but also to an adjunct alienation of of true Catholics. I will go to my grave & ultimate judgement day believing that the current edict in place does not reflect what God/Jesus intended. At the same time I will consider myself a Catholic despite whatever bishops and other Church leaders say to the contrary. I invite those who say that this disqualifies me as being a Catholic to join me at the time of my first and only true judgement to rebut this.

What say you?
