Hello, my aunt recently became protestant and she said she can’t dance at any social events
anymore. All she told me was that it was bad to dance but didn’t explain why.
Can you please let me know why?
Because Protestants ain’t got rhythm.

Still don’t know if I would dance to it. :p.

Jon
There is an Episcopal church in San Francisco called St Gregory Nyssa. They dance. As part of the liturgy. It is really quite extraordinary. They have a world wide reputation for their liturgies. 4th Century modern. It’s a beautiful sanctuary too. Everything is very eastern looking, lots of icons.

Is that the church you go to Compline? When in the city, I go to Grace Cathedral. But I have read a lot about that church.

I am there often, Andrew. Grace Cathedral is beautiful - and there is a new Dean - but St Gregory Nyssa is quite the experience. Next time you are in the City, please do visit.

Simple, it depends on who they believe has the true word of God. If their preachers says no dance, then no dance, it he says no cake, then no cake. You can make up your own church and your own teachings and have people follow you. You can teach they MUST dance and eat cake and they will do it. Why???🤷 Beats me.

I don’t know what it is today, but, IIRC, some denominations used to think that dancing summoned evil spirits.

Still, where I grew up in MI, there were some Protestant denominations in which their followers weren’t allowed to watch movies given above a “G” rating. Which meant, pretty much, that they weren’t allowed to watch anything that wasn’t a Dsiney cartoon or a movie about animals. Seriously - due to this, the teachers in my school district had to give “opt-out slips” (notices in which the parents could sign if they wished to opt their children out) if the teacher was planning to show any movies in class for educational purposes (and “reward movies” were always Disney cartoons or old musicals such as “Mary Poppins” or “The Sound of Music”- even in high school).

I will never see “the city” again. Since my stroke I do well; on flat land. I would have to dance with my chair.

She was probably baptist. Baptists have been known to forbid dancing.

Some or most protestants have a problem with bumping and grinding, and twerking, or basically any dancing of a sexual nature. Also there is a wide spread issue with the content of the music. Watch footloose for reference to why Prot don’t like dancing in gen.
Dancing leads to physical contact, which inevitably leads to lust and sin in the extreme fundamentalist protestant worldview.

Of course, there are always exceptions. Many of these sects allow for the concept purity balls. Draw your own conclusions.
And many of those who don’t dance are talking about social dancing with a partner of the opposite gender. Perhaps seen as a worldly accepted preliminary to further sexual contact.
In many cases they are also not likely to listen to secular music but then are more likely to dance weekly like King David danced as part of a prayer or church service than other folks dance occasionally at a club or party on a weekend night.

I don’t always dance, but when I do I dance the Texas two-step is what I dance.

Stay dancing, my friend 😃

Seriously, herein is the problem with the term Protestant. It is virtually worthless
Most Protestants do dance
