Why can't we celebrate the Eurcharist at our dining room table?

How to explain why priests are the only ones to convert the bread into Jesus? Can’t we pray to the Lord and ask him to give us the body and blood of Jesus. Because we believe it through the priest - we as people who really believe should do the same? I am just wondering - at a family dinner table. that we practice it and ask the Lord to come down?

I am probably speaking heresy, but I am just curious why.
 
Dear emom,

The Eucharist has a context. It is the sign of His passion. When we see the bread separate from the wine, the body separate from the blood, we see that he died. The Eucharist is all about Him and His love for us. It’s not something we do. It is something that He does. It is the great act of His priesthood which He has chosen to give to us through His priests.
