I am a Catholic, and I recently went to a Methodist Church with my friend, and she was very offended when I wore a pair of blue jeans to Church.

Why is wearing jeans to Church such a problem?

Hi,

Would you wear jeans to meet the President in the White House? I would hope that you respect the office of President of the United States enough to wear something better than jeans.

Your friend recognizes that a church is a place for acknowledging God to be Who He is. We call this worship. The more we are aware of who God is, the more respectful of Him and His house we ought to be. We Catholics should be the most respectful in that His Presence in the Eucharist resides in our churches.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
