*I am quoting LilyM
Theologically (study of God) the reason is firstly because God chose to be incarnated as a male - in the person of Jesus Christ - and secondly because God CHOSE and ORDAINED and COMMANDED ONLY males to fulfil the priestly functions. *

HOWEVER: we are forgetting a very important and ***spiritual ***foundation of our Faith- Mother Mary. God did incarnate as a Male, through a Female. So be it the Mother in Mother Mary. Thus, WE all stand equal in our annointing. No matter our ordination, we have Sacred responsibilites to live out our all equally important vocations of Marriage, Priesthood, Religious Life, or Single Life.
God never intended for this to be a surperiority issue that males dominate over females. Tragically, throughout history, this misconstruing of Males being the “superior” gender has caused monumental problems. IE. Domestic Violence justification, using power and control methods in emotionally, mentally, and physically ways over another human being. Not only this, but there has been huge social consequences of this Mentality… GOD never intended this to be this way. GOD created men and women to compliment, to make whole, one another. Again, So be it Mother Mary, the vehicle in which God the incarnate, became fully present to us in the world.

Blessings, Lisa

I still wish they would have a “I am PUKING” smiley.

The issue of all male priests HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ALL OF THIS. If Jesus Christ is a MALE PERSON then only a MALE PERSON can be a priest. Unless you want to change the theology of the Mass, which is what the proponents of women’s ordination want and need to do. They HATE absolutely HATE the “Tridentine Mass” because of its undeniable showing and wording of the Mass as the Sacrifice of Calvary.

This was the point I was thinking of as I reading. Our complementary role for women is as Mary our Mother. Our “yes” to God invites the Motherhood of the Bride. A woman, by her nature, is receptive. Our role in the Church is to help all the children to become receptive, to become more feminine in our reception of Christ, The Bridegroom.

I know it creeps people out but Eve is the mother of all of us. Mary is The New Eve. Mary is also the mother of us all. Mary is the mother of the Bridegroom and mother of His Bride The Church. We often ask, “Mary, mother of the Church, pray for us.” We know Mary is the mother of Jesus.

This topic is incredibly hard to explain and to understand. It is easier when we let go of the ideas that one sex is better than the other.

Either you or I am reading lrs wrong. We took what she wrote in completely opposite directions.

Dear I want to Puke:

Did Jesus Christ maintain this MALENESS, MALE BODY FORM, when he Ascended into Heaven per se?
This humanly body that God incarnated into was Male, however, we can not say that God is male or female.

Little Deb, keep praying the Rosary for you and your children, you sound like an awesome Mother.

This quote of yours, Little Deb, is full of wisdom: “A woman, by her nature, is receptive. Our role in the Church is to help all the children to become receptive, to become more feminine in our reception of Christ, The Bridegroom”

Peace,
Lisa

The Catholic church does not let women become Priests… Why is that?

Wasn’t Mary Magdalene a great preacher and teacher? Why has that all of a sudden been stopped?
In the words of the great Pope John Paul II: (approximately) “The Church does not have the authority to ordain women priests”.

Also, this would confuse the roles of man and woman. Christ came down as a man and we need to respect that. If during Divine Liturgy, the person standing at the altar, who is In persona Christi(in the person of Christ), is a woman, it would distort the Last Supper image and do violence to Christ and His Church.

Actually on this, yes he did. He is fully divine and fully human.

God is not male or female He is however masculine and feminine. Incarnating Himself as a male speaks to His role as giver. That he incarnated through a woman shows our nature, male and female, as receiver.

Dear I want to Puke:

Did Jesus Christ maintain this MALENESS, MALE BODY FORM, when he Ascended into Heaven per se?
Yes, Jesus kept His body. He is CONTINUALLY offering Himself before the Father, as a MAN.
This humanly body that God incarnated into was Male, however, we can not say that God is male or female.
This is a confusing of terms. There are three PERSONS of the Blessed Trinity. The other two persons, God the Father, and God the Son, are spirits without sex (male or female). You are almost correct in saying that God, is not man or female. This is true because 1st and 3rd persons of the Blessed Trinity are not male or female. The Second person is the God-Man, Jesus Christ 2nd nature, which has forever linked His divinity with our humanity and our humanity with His divinity, is human-male.

Forgive me if I skip over any comments that may be more pertanant. However, I think its pretty clear in scripture at a minimum as a precident.

1tim 2:12
Let no women be a teacher over you.

It goes on to say why and the purpose of women in the ministry. but it is clearly stated not to be a teacher (priest)

is it sexist? is it non-PC? dont care, but there it is plain as day, Women should not be church leaders…

Now, it is possible to say that paul was simply refering that HE lets no women over him. But the point is, there is a precident…

Simple…in all the history of Christianity there is not one priestess.

Mary Magdalene is nowhere taught as having been a teacher of preacher, though I understand she was a very holy woman.
Pax tecum,

I would be inclined to agree with you on the cultural end, but it begs the question, why did Jesus choose male disciples?

Kendy
Jesus had many female disciples as well. “Disciples” is a broader category than the Twelve. Why weren’t women included in the Twelve? I would say that this was for pragmatic and cultural reasons. That does indicate that issues of women’s equality were not as important for Jesus as modern feminists think they should have been, but I don’t think it necessarily reflects some perennial theological truth.

I’m not sure that the fact that none of the Twelve were women is of any more significance than the fact that none of their names began with the letter “O.”

Edwin

Monks are synonymous with nuns? That’s news to me!
Not synonymous. Complementary. The point is that men have some counterpart to every female role in the Church, but the reverse is not the case.

And historically this clearly and obviously was because of a belief in male superiority–not at the level of human nature, which was the same for all, but on a biological and psychological level. Men were seen as more fully representative of the common human nature.

You can label this “radical feminism” if you like (though that makes me suspect that you’ve never actually encountered radical feminism–my views are horrifyingly conservative to even my moderately feminist friends). But that doesn’t advance the discussion at all.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Jesus did many things that were against the tied of culture!!! If He wanted women to be priest then He would of had some women among the 12. Culture would not of stopped Him. Remember Jesus is God. God is always the same, never changing.

Do not assume things, my friend. I suppose it’s okay if you want to suspect me of something–because your conclusions would be false–seeing as you do not know me. I have encountered some of the most horrid examples of radical feminism. I have seen a very common thread running through the radical feminist movement—the demand for the ordination of women to the priesthood.

Here is a good article written by an Orthodox priest:

Before i start i would just like to thank everyone who has responded and taken the time to assist my understanding on this subject, if you haven’t already noticed im still learning about the Church so your patience and mercy is appreciated. When God came to earth though its not like he was going to be both man and woman he obviously will come as one. But does this mean he is only one? When God created man and woman did he not create them in his own image? This is why i find it hard to accept just because Jesus was a male means only priests can be males. Another comment mentioned was The church is a lady which is the bride of christ and males who follow christ foot steps also wed the church so then what is the nun in the church? Is this some sort of lesbian relationship (no disrespect) does the nun wed the church to? So then what makes the church a lady that is the bride to the “male christ” a lady church which is run by men?

I watched a documentary on the History channel which was saying Mary Magdelene was a Disciple, not of the original twelve but a disciple which later went to lands and preached and converted thousands of people. If this was not accurate a simple polite comment would have been fine. Or maybe this is accurate but disciple and priests are different??

I hope you all can assist on answering all my new questions.

Again I thank you for you assistance on me building my relationship with our beautiful Church.

Thanks
