Read the exerpts from the latest letter. I converted three years ago specifically beacuse I read the new catechism and watched carefully John Paul’s response to the world. I’ve read only a couple of Benedict’s writings, but I sense a beautiful soul expressing the love God has for all.
Current comments make me think non-Catholics see the Papal SELECTION as a populatity contest. Once again, rationalism rears its head.
In love, John Paul explained the eternal truths without compromise. He sought to win souls to Christ, not to persuade people to agree with him.

No, no, no. I can only speak for myself. I was quite concerned as to who the next Pope would be. Being a non-Catholic, I prayed that a true servant of the Lord and shepherd would be selected. I was quite anxious whether someone would be chosen who would, well, want too much change too quickly.

IMHO, the Conclave was guided by the Holy Spirit.
And, I rejoiced over, and continue to do so, Pope Benedict XVI!

If one prays to the Holy Spirit to do the will of God with regards to Papal selection, then what must follow is trust. If the trust is not there, then it is not God that speaks in this person’s heart, but he who would steal the thoughts and minds of God’s children from Him.

There are many claning cymbals in the world. Trust in the Holy Spirit without Obedience to the Papacy and Magisterium is one of them.

This Pope sets a new precident in the Church because he is (by FAR) the most widely-published person ever to ascend to the Chair of Peter. Ratzinger wrote and published TONS of stuff. Most devout Catholics knew his name (whereas, when JP2 was elected, most Catholics said, “WHO?”).

No new Pope has ever even approached this level of exposure going into office. But your sense of his writings is consistent throughout his MANY works.

God bless Pope Benedict!

Hmmm, I am not quite sure how anyone can think the selection was a popularity contest for many unorthodox Catholics. The Holy Spirit will guide all in the conclave who sincerely seek Aid. And yes, I heard it put beautifully by a priest that was a seminarian in Rome and met Ratzinger the most of any prelate when he was over there. “Pope Benedict XVI is a holy, humble and brilliant man”. May God grant us the Grace to Love through Justice and Mercy the gift of the Church and our new Pope. :yup: Thanks and God Bless.

For those who subscribe to Crisis magazine,

please take a look at the article on the current
Pope. Wonderful!
