The link below answers both these questions, at least partially. It is an advertizement for Ave Maria University but it illustrates good reasons to be Catholic first of all and, secondly, it explains the reason to get a good Catholic education. Of course it is idealized and is not limited to Ave Maria University. It gives the reason to defend and promote and finance truly Catholic education at every level. Watch and see.

This promotion is not an indictment of those who cannot afford a Catholic education for their children. But it may be an indictment of those who have the ability to provide such an education for those who cannot afford it, and perhaps it explains why there should not be any Catholic anywhere who maintains a high standard of living for themselves while these needs are not being met. Perhaps it should be cause for many Catholics living in wealthy ghettos to examine their consciences.

Tuition at a Catholic high school in the U.S. is now in the eight to nine thousand dollar range. Less than seven thousand is considered cheap and it’s rare. For four years we’re talking about thirty-six thousand dollars.

If I was a millionaire, I would NOT pay some poor kid’s tuition at a Catholic school when the public school is free. What I might do is put the money in a trust fund in the stock market, with the dividends from the stocks going to the kid throughout life. He’ll be far better off in this valley of tears.

I went to a Catholic school. It wasn’t until we went to college and talked to other students that we found out how much we’d missed. One of my high school classmates, who was the high school student President, said, “I didn’t know until I talked to people here what a dump St. Louis was.”
Perhaps the Catholic high schools of today with their high tuitions have much better programs, facilities, counseling, and stepping stones to good colleges then we had in our day,

but I wish I had gone to the public school.

7 or 8 K in our area is what you pay for GRADE school… some of the HS in our area are 15 to 30K per year !!

Pretty soon you will have to take out a mortgage to pay for grade school. Catholic schools do provide a better education especially with religion and philosophy. BUT many of the public schools are close or equal in other areas… of course NO school will ever equal what we got in my alma mater… Go Eagles !!

$10K for Catholic high school isn’t that bad. Nonsectarian private high schools tend to be much more expensive.

I thought I got a lot out of Catholic high school. I also doubt that I would have returned to the Catholic Church if I did not have that background. That said, the quality of education varied. Some teachers were great, others were terrible. But you’ll have that at any but the very best schools.

What’s going on in that place? :hmmm:

Compare to Bishop Walsh School in Cumberland, Maryland:

bishopwalsh.org/Admissions/index.html

Our tuition, fees and discounts for the school year 2012-2013 will be as follows:
Pre-Kindergarten – 3 half days $1050

Pre-Kindergarten – 3 full days $2100

Look around yourself. You’ll have to websearch the schools’ own websites.
