There are few Catholics in South Carolina, the reddest of red states, but that is changing fast

Well, in Alabama it’s extremely cheap to live. And Roman Catholics and the SBC share quite a bit when it comes to social issues.

Yeah, I’m not entirely surprised, either.

Given that America is rapidly losing its Christian identity, it’s only natural that there would be an alliance between Evangelicals and Catholics.

Why are Catholics flocking to the Bible Belt?
  1. Because the weather is beautiful.
  2. Because the people are beautiful.
  3. Because the food is awesome.
  4. Because the college football is the best in the nation.
  5. Because the people are nice.
  6. Because the cost of living is reasonable.
  7. Because the public schools still do a great job.
  8. Because the crime rate is low.
  9. Because the kids still answer grown ups with “ma’am” and “sir.”
  10. Because we still love Elvis.
Peace,

I love my Alabama Catholics 😃

That’s because South Carolina is awesome!

Catholics have actually been here for a long time, but it’s always nice to see new faces. In the Charleston area in particular, we’ve seen a lot of growth in our community with the arrival of the new Boeing facility and all the supporting industry.

If you’re getting ready to move and you love warm weather and friendly people, come check us out!

Migration to South happen’s for the same reason migration the North occurs. Making a Living being the primary objective, as opposed to cost of living.

I speak from first-hand experience (notice the location 😉 ). Growing up I never met a Catholic until high school. However, once I started getting involved with the Catholic campus ministry at school, I found a group that has grown rapidly in the past few years, and all the Catholic churches I went to in the area have been packed on Sundays. I’ve been really encouraged to find such a strong community of Catholics not 5 miles from BJU Press! 👍

If any Catholics in the frozen north are looking to move south, I recommend Cullman County, Alabama, the Catholic buckle on the Bible Belt. A thriving parish and four (count’em – four) monasteries (although one of them is not to be recommended).

I second this! I’ve met several of Cullman’s Benedictines through our RCIA program. They are awesome! 👍

Ah fun with the BJUers… I’ll bet they avoid your house like the plague. 😃

I live in SC. There is a decently sized Catholic community here.
