Why celebrate Thanksgiving?

For me, one of the best things about going to Mass on Thanksgiving is, it is NOT obligatory! It is because we have a choice, we WANT to, not we HAVE to. What better gift to be thankful for than God’s gift of His only Son, poured out for us in the Eucharist, who freed us from sin and death? Awesome!

Wow, are we related? Last year I proposed that this year, instead of a $50 grab bag gift we should all donate $25 of the $50 to adopt a family and only buy each other a $25 gift. Talk about a big shut down. I am not going to partake in the grab bag (after years of being shut down about that) b/c they are sick of my saying that it ISN’T ABOUT THINGS!!! It’s about Christ! They just don’t get it. :banghead:
Well, we might be related - did you spend Thanksgiving day listening to your nieces talk about their various hair and nail appointments? How about how nice your hair looks and where oh where did you get that outfit! Maybe talk about needing lipodissolve? At one point the discussion was about my sister and her inability to wear her naval ring anymore! And I’m the one that no one wants to talk to because I might just mention something about God or Catholicism.

I wasn’t asked to go on the shopping trip that they all went on today. All the better because I would have declined. I can only take so much materialism.
