Are you OK Sister Terese, you seem in quite a fuddle. I am not an atheist. I appreciate that you feel it can go around in circles I feel it to. But that is the nature of my questions. I find that a lot of people in the Church, hide behind dogma or doctrine and don’t seem to be able to look at their God and religion in an objective way, to ascertain what the truths are. I always get the ’ It is true because it is’ argument or frustration from those who reply because they obviously have blind faith - I don’t - I need evidence and not philosophical suppositions or the ‘I don’t know the answer - so it must be a god’ thinking of Thomas Aquinas et al.

If you think the arguments of Thomas Aquinas boil down to “I don’t know the answer - so it must be a god” Then you SERIOUSLY misunderstand him.

I think you just refuse to see the existence of God as a possibility, that every time somebody reaches the logical conclusion of God, your response is that “They just don’t know the ‘real answer’.” You seem to think that God only exists as a cop-out for real science. That Philosophy is useless in the “real world”. This shows a serious lack of understanding AND a huge amount of arrogance.

In short, you need to be willing to actually engage in dialogue, not just respond to arguments/evidence that you don’t understand with one sentence posts. If you don’t get it, ask questions. It isn’t that hard.

And you are correct, you are not an atheist, but an agnostic.

I find when I ask questions people, obfuscate, misdirect or dance around the question. It is as if they can’t handle free thinking or simple questions and rather than say ’ I don’ know’ or the ‘Church does not have an answer to that’ - they go to great lengths to insist that what the church teaches is somehow infallible or not open to test or scrutiny - and cannot be wrong. In no other branch of human endeavour would I meet such obstinacy.

I think my favourite is the disingenuous * ‘There is only one God’

I know that the person typing could easily name about a dozen gods without even trying, off the top of their head.

There are so many people proclaiming absolutes in morality, behaviour and sexuality. It is remarkable!! I can’t help thinking that people are just having a laugh when they make such staunch statements ’ Masturbation is Wrong’ 'Same Sex Marriage is Wrong, ‘there is only one God’.

When I think of man’s progress in the last 150 years. It is hard to imagine how this type of thinking can survive. The church will have to grow via the third world countries. As they are in danger of being nothing more than an anachronism by the civilised world.

I say all of this in the hope - that people are just having fun and that there are some genuine people on the forum who are genuinely interested in providing some answers.

That’s a good proof for God. The fact that belief in God has survived all these millenia must mean there’s something to it.

This right here tells me all I need to know. You believe that since people have believed in many God’s throughout history, then the claim that there is only one God must be false.
Sure you can name dozens of Gods. But having a name does not make it a reality.

I agree, it is an interesting phenomena - that man has created gods all through history - but all we can tell is that they are ‘man made’. Maybe there is something in the ‘God gene’ hypothesis. Some people do have this propensity - to believe in Gods. It is noteworthy, that which ever religion you have a conversation with - they all believe theirs is - the true one.

So instead of thinking “I must figure out which one is correct” you decide “all of them are false”
